    Maddies Poncho

    MaterialsYarn: worsted weight, 280 - 420 yds

    Crochet Hooks: K

    Miscellaneous: yarn needle

    Gauge: 4" with K hook = 10 rounds and 4 clusters

Sizes: Toddler, Child, Child Large, Preteen, Teen/Adult. See end of pattern for alteration suggestions.

Note: Pattern is worked in the round. DO NOT join at end of each round unless stated in pattern.Place a stitch marker into the first stitch of each round or leave a long tail in the beginning and use itas a stitch marker by laying it after the last stitch of the previous round.

Project is started with a sc foundation chain. This creates a more flexible, finished edge.A regular beginning chain could be used if preferred.

Important Notes: Yarn and SizesYarn suggestions: Any worsted weight yarn, similar to Red Heart Super Saver. Some worsted weight yarns, such as Caron Simply Soft, are thinner and will affect size.Bulky weight yarn, similar to Lion Brand Tweed Stripes, may also be used. Some bulky weight yarns aremuch thicker and will affect size of project.

Sizes: 4 sizes are listed in the pattern, with measurements for each.

Please check gauge and adjust as necessary by changing hook sizeor following instructions for a different size.

Fit: Cowl section is designed to be slouchy or fold over. For a shorter, turtleneck style, end cowl section when desired height. Poncho sectionis designed to hug the shoulders with a slight flare.

Measurements in pattern were taken while poncho was lying flat. These are not the circumference.

    Directions for toddler Size:

Measurements: Cowl section - 4.5 high x 9.75 wide; poncho width at shoulders - 13; overall13 long x17 at widest point on poncho.

With K hook and yarn color of choice, start with a sc foundation chain of 61, sl st to join into a ring. Be carefulto not twist chain. (60sts)1. *sk 2 sts, (sc, hdc, dc) all in next st,* repeat to end of round. (20 clusters)2. (sc, hdc, dc) in each sc to end of round.3. Repeat previous round, working in continuous rounds, until piece measure 4.5 from beginning edge.

Important Notes: StitchesWork the cluster (sc, hdc, dc) in sc sts only from previous round, skipping the hdc and dc of each cluster. Theeasiest way to do this is find the first sc, then sk 2 sts each time.

Continue for desired size.~For a slightly different look, clusters could be worked in spaces created by clusters of previous round.

    4. Sk 2, place marker for start of round. Sc in next st and in each st to end of round.

For cowl only: sl st in next st. Finish off and weave in ends. Cowl is reversible, with a nice texture on eitherside.

Before starting poncho section, decide which side of cowl will be the right side. On one side (for me it is theinside of the cowl, but could be different depending on how you work on the piece) the texture will be bumpi-er. To turn cowl inside out, sl st in next st, ch 1, then turn cowl and continue with pattern below. Do not join atend of first round.

    1. *sc2tog, sc 4*, repeat to end of round. (50sts)2. *sc2tog, sc 8*, repeat to end of round. (45sts)3. Hdc in each st to end of round.4. *2hdc in next st, hdc 2*, repeat to end of round. (60sts)5. *2hdc in next st, hdc 3*, repeat to end of round. (75sts)
