Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner Date: Thursday 4 June Term 2, Week 6 Welcome Back Full Time It has been absolutely delightful to have students back to school full time after a long period of ‘Remote Learning’ at home. Students have been settling nicely back into learning in their classrooms and the playground. Teachers and support staff have been and will continue to focus particularly on the next six months as this will be a critical window in which to shape our students' futures. Given that this virus will continue to impact families, communities, workplaces, shopping centres and public transport for quite some time, schools will be the bridge between families and the outside world. Our children spend around 30 hours a week during school term in school communities away from their parents. How schools navigate these uncertain months ahead will be so important for the whole school community, and it will be a huge determining factor as to how children cope long term. At this time, the Tregeagle PS team wants to remind our students and their families that they were dearly missed during their time at home and that now students are back, they are being cared for and we are rebuilding their sense of safety and belonging in the school environment. Teachers and Support staff are now focussing on the 3 C’s: 1. Connection - Rebuilding relationships with teachers, peers, familiar routines within classrooms is very important at this time. 2. Calmness - Daily mindfulness opportunities at home and school can really help all children, especially those who are feeling a little ‘wobbly’. It helps the students feel safe in their environments. Ideas include: deep breathing, time in nature, music, brain breaks, smiling mind app. 3. Cohesion - The words “we are all in this together” could not be truer than in a school community. From the cleaners, the GA, admin staff, teaching staff and leadership, the parents, right through to every student who attends, there is a fundamental need to feel that everyone belongs. When there is a strong sense of belonging, there is a strong sense of cohesion. Keeping each other's spirits high helps us all in our wonderful community get through these times. Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday Next Monday 8 June, there will be a Public Holiday for the Queen’s Birthday. Tregeagle Public School will not be operational on this day. We will see staff and students return on Tuesday 9 June. We hope you have a wonderful long weekend! Principals Message, Rebecca Fletcher Birthdays Madden, Akira & Mrs Benson

Welcome Back Full Time

It has been absolutely delightful to have students back to school full time after a long period of ‘Remote Learning’ at home.

Teachers and Support staff are now focussing on the 3 C’s:

Baby Announcement On behalf of the wider school community, we congratulate Mr and Mrs Bock on the safe arrival of their gorgeous baby girl Bronte, on Monday. We look forward to meeting Miss Bronte when the time is right. Buddy Reading at Tregeagle PS KS, 1/2G and 5/6B have been enjoying ‘Buddy Reading’ lately. It has been lovely watching the younger and older students reading together. The advantages of a buddy reading program for younger students include them feeling safe and happy at school, as well as demonstrating improved engagement in reading. For older buddies, it can help them develop improved self-esteem and confidence in reading aloud. 'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go'. Dr Seuss

Parents on School Site There should be no parents/visitors onto our school site unless for an 'essential' reason. I ask that all parents/visitors remain vigilant in adhering to this request. It is important that we as a school community remain consistent at this time. Please do not enter the school at morning drop off time. Afternoon pick up will happen at the hall side school gate. We ask that parents/visitors do not enter the school and please physical distance from other parents whilst waiting for your child/ren. We sincerely thank you for your help and understanding during this time. Canteen - Reminder Lunch order’s need to be handed in by Thursday each week. Payments can only be made by cash (no payments online into the canteen account). Reusable lunch wallets can be purchased through the school office - $10. No Thursday snack day for the rest of the term. School Photos

We will advise our school community when a new date for school photos is rebooked. This will happen when changes are made around the visitors on school sites guidelines. School Choir - Back On We meet at 2nd lunch in the computer lab for rehearsal each Monday. We can’t wait to see students there each week to enjoy singing together!

Mrs Spence – Fitness This week KS have been working on their fundamental movement skills and have been practicing skipping with a skipping rope and skipping with hula hoops. Look how clever they are!

Miss Guthrie – Walker Learning

Purposeful play is an important part in helping students to rebuild important connections with their peers after their ‘Remote Learning’ time. This week we have an ice-cream parlour in our classroom. Yum! Students are learning to take orders and pay with money.

Which material was the strongest? Last week the students in 1/2G made structures out of bricks (lego), straw and sticks to see which was the strongest. But - along came the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ to blow the houses down! We had a wonderful afternoon!

Mrs Andrews – Project Day Last Friday, students from Year 2’s to Year 5’s presented their History projects to the whole school. Students choose an Aboriginal story to create their project about. We are very proud of the high quality of work that was created and the learning that happened. Well done! NAIDOC 2020 - Always Was, Always Will Be

This year we will be celebrating NAIDOC Day in Week 10 on the 2 July. Students can wear the colours of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags. These colours are; red, black, yellow, green, blue and white. Students will be participating in NAIDOC activities throughout the day.

Mrs Collins – Students in 3/4/5A are creating movies based of fairytales. Please encourage your children to practice their scripts (they have been given) and to ensure any costumes they need are at school in a labeled plastic bag on Tuesday week 7. We are hoping to have them finished by week 10 with a student screening in week 1 term 3.

Book Club – Issue 4, 2020 Online Book Club LOOP orders are due by Friday 19 June for Issue 4 2020, thank you. Changes to the opportunity class placement process for 2020 Year 4 students The 2021 Year 5 opportunity class placement process was put on hold in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. We now have a revised and simplified timeline for the OC placement process to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible. The changes include:

A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020. Late

applications cannot be accepted.

A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.

To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores. There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes. For further detailed information I encourage you to visit (https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

Community Noticeboard

Get Active and Be Adventurous with Food at Home With the current global health concerns meaning we are spending more time within our own home, we thought we’d put together some great ideas to keep your families active, busy and adventuring with food.

Brain Breaks: learning can be tiring for kids, and they need to take short breaks to be able to regulate their

emotions, remain focused and learn. These may be during one activity or as a transition between one

activity to another. Try introducing a dance party every 30-60 minutes, where you put on some rockin’

music and dance. The length of one song is enough to refresh your child’s brain.

Crunch & Sip: don’t neglect Crunch & Sip while you are learning from home. Make it a whole family

experience, and CRUNCH on fruit or vegetables and SIP on water together mid-morning. Take the

opportunity to read a book together or discuss a topic of the day as a family.

Stay Active: take balloon “keep it up” to a new level and play balloon tennis. This can be played inside or

outside by using tennis racquets, totem tennis racquets or even rolled up newspaper. You can use socks,

scrunched up paper or soft balls rather than balloons.

Food Eggs-periment: create a naked egg with your family. Simply place a whole egg into a glass and cover

with white vinegar. Leave for 2-3 days until the shell dissolves (decalcifies). Then the outside of the egg

should feel rubbery to touch and you’ll be able to bounce it from about 5cm above a surface.

DIY wrap bar: use the extra time you and your family have at home to create a DIY wrap bar for lunch. Lay

out wraps and a range of rainbow fillings children can choose from. Not only will this teach them healthy

habits and food skills, it’ll also provide children with useful skills lunchbox for when normal routines return.
