Sustainability
Tips Read on for tips on how to do your part in mitigating waste!
Recycle
Creating healthy recycling habits
will ensure reductions in waste. Remember to always recycle/
compost your waste (if possible). The goal is to reduce your
garbage output by transitioning it into recycling!
See the last page for a
comprehensive breakdown on how
to recycle! (You can zoom in).
Did You Know?
- It takes 2400 litres of water to
make one hamburger.
Reusable Bottles
One very important and very easy way to help the planet is to
simply buy a reusable water bottle! You (yes you) can save a
lot of money, and a lot of plastic
from entering landfills and waterways.
Featured Doc
Unearthed: The Fracking Façade
A video exposing a flawed claim often abused in the sales pitch for promoting shale gas development across the world: “With a history of 60 years, after nearly a million wells drilled, there are no documented cases that hydraulic fracturing (fracking) has lead to the contamination of groundwater.”
Green Business
Fenugreen (Freshpaper)
“FreshPaper was developed by a young inventor who happened upon the active ingredients after accidentally drinking some tap water while visiting her grandmother in India. Her grandmother gave her a home remedy - a mixture of edible organic spices, which kept her from getting sick”

“High Level of Plastics found in Great Lakes”
Recent samples of Lakes Erie, Huron, and Superior have revealed a startling amount of harmful “microplastics”; super tiny particles resulting from the breakdown of household and industrial plastics:
“Plastic pollution is a well-documented problem in oceans. But nobody had ever published research on the freshwater lakes…” These plastics often contain volatile compounds, which are detrimental to human health, such as PCBs, DDE, and Bisphenol-A.

Mike Nickerson [Life, Money and Illusion] wrote an article for the Silhouette, addressing humanity’s need for more sustainable management in every day life: “The biggest news on planet Earth today is that the human family has grown to fill its habitat. While this situation effects every issue from economic stagnation to climate change, it is actually good news. Realizing that we are now mature as a species clarifies the task of adapting to our mature state by creating a culture that acknowledges and works within planetary limits.”
Thank you to Mike Nickerson, for writing this article, as well as coming to the Buy Nothing, Eat Nothing rally last week!
