Principals Message Its been such a big and excing week with so much happening. Firstly, our painters have finished the scope of work that was approved by the Department of Educaon. The children have coped beaufully with the minor interrupons. I was very proud of the lovely farewell the children gave to the painters as a thank you for all of their hard work. The painters said that the students of a school have never before thanked them and they were genuinely touched by the gesture. We celebrated the birthday of our youngest students - Elyssa and Eliza. I was so proud of the way our older students spoiled them with leers, cards and lovely giſts. They made a real fuss of them to ensure that they had a lovely day. Yet another lovely benefit of being part of a small school. We had Mrs Marchiori visit us this week too. She is a Literacy and Numeracy Strategy Advisor for the Department of Educaon and she arrived with lots of fun ideas and resources for learning maths. She is going to keep up regular visits this term to keep us all excited and movated about our daily maths acvies. We have also had a visit from a photographer from the Sydney Morning Herald who came to capture some photos and to talk with us about our supporve and nurturing community. It was wonderful to reflect on the way our students keep bouncing back from challenges and despite it all, we have connued to maintain our warm, friendly and posive school environment. Keep an eye out for the arcle on our school in this Saturdays Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. All of this and our students are working hard, engaged in a variety of learning experiences and reflecng great progress in assessments. What more could a Principal ask for? Dates to Remember……. Principal’s Message

It’s been such a big and exciting week with so much happening.

Firstly, our painters have finished the scope of work that was approved by the Department of Education. The children have coped beautifully with the minor interruptions. I was very proud of the lovely farewell the children gave to the painters as a thank you for all of their hard work. Bianca and Poppy spoke quite eloquently as they commented on how delighted they were with the freshly painted buildings. The painters said that the students of a school have never before thanked them and they were genuinely touched by the gesture.

We celebrated the birthday of our youngest students - Elyssa and Eliza. I was so proud of the way our older students spoiled them with letters, cards and lovely gifts. They made a real fuss of them to ensure that they had a lovely day. Yet another lovely benefit of being part of a small school.

We had Mrs Marchiori visit us this week too. She is a Literacy and Numeracy Strategy Advisor for the Department of Education and she arrived with lots of fun ideas and resources for learning maths. She is going to keep up regular visits this term to keep us all excited and motivated about our daily maths activities.

We have also had a visit from a photographer from the Sydney Morning Herald who came to capture some photos and to talk with us about our supportive and nurturing community. It was wonderful to reflect on the way our students keep bouncing back from challenges and despite it all, we have continued to maintain our warm, friendly and positive school environment. Keep an eye out for the article on our school in this Saturday’s Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.

All of this and our students are working hard, engaged in a variety of learning experiences and reflecting great progress in assessments. What more could a Principal ask for?

A defibrillator for Macdonald Valley Public School!

If you’re ever faced with sudden cardiac arrest you have minutes to retrieve and commence use of a Defib to give your loved ones the best chance of survival.

Thanks to Sophie and the Community Defib project, we now have a Defib installed on the front gate of our school for use by all community members if required.

We look forward to providing more information to our school community as soon as we receive our Launch pack.

Aboriginal Origins

Aboriginal Australians could be the oldest population of humans living outside of Africa - where one theory says they migrated from boats 70,000 years ago.

Australia’s first people—known as Aboriginal Australians—have lived on the continent for over 50,000 years. Today, there are 250 distinct language groups spread throughout Australia. Aboriginal Australians are split into two groups: Aboriginal peoples, who are related to those who already inhabited Australia when Britain began colonizing the island in 1788, and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who descend from residents of the Torres Strait Islands, a group of islands that is part of modern-day Queensland, Australia.

All Aboriginal Australians are related to groups indigenous to Australia. However, the use of the term indigenous is controversial, since it can be claimed by people who descend from people who weren’t the original inhabitants of the island. Legally, “Aboriginal Australian” is recognized as “a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by the community in which he [or she] lives.”

In 2017, a genetic study of the genomes of 111 Aboriginal Australians found that today’s Aboriginal Australians are all related to a common ancestor who was a member of a distinct population that emerged on the mainland about 50,000 years ago. Humans are thought to have migrated to Northern Australia from Asia using primitive boats. A current theory holds that those early migrants themselves came out of Africa about 70,000 years ago, which would make Aboriginal Australians the oldest population of humans living outside Africa

Mrs Stafford/Mrs Smart

A big thank you to the following businesses for their support in donating goods and/or services for the P&C’s Easter Markets 2020. Whilst we were unfortunately unable to go ahead with the markets this year due to COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions, we greatly appreciate their generosity and support for our school and look forward to being able to offer their donations at our next Easter Market fundraiser.
