    The PLOT of Macbeth...

    Macbeth and Banquo are foil characters. (Look up the definition in the back of your

    book, put it in your notes, memorize it.) BOTH of these men are generals in the

    Scottish army. They are powerful andrespected men who serve DUNCAN, their king.

    Macbeth opens with a scene that depictswitches and set the mood.

    The witches agree to meet again at theend of the day.

    Macbeth is a HERO on the battlefield onthis day. (He saves the day when one of the Scottish soldiers turns traitor andtries to sell out his fellow Scots.)

    Tragic flaw ... This is hamartiaaccording to the ancient Greeks. Aristotleintroduced this terms in Poetics ,suggesting that the tragic hero was aperson of noble rank wand nature whosemisfortune is not brought about by villainy

    but by some error of judgment.
