Anyone who has lost an important document like a mark sheet or passport can now apply online to get a certificate stating that the document is missing from any police station in Tamil Nadu within minutes.
This can be done free of cost after feeding in personal details and the particulars of the missing document at the Tamil Nadu police website http: www.tnpolice.gov.in. The applicant should upload a valid identity card. He or she will receive a one-time password (OTP) to the registered mobile number. When the OTP is fed in, the system generated certificate appears along with the front page of the Aadhaar card. Using the facility, people can download the certificate and submit it to the appropriate authority to get a copy of the missing document. Earlier, it would take at least 15 days to get the certificate from the police. This facility is to be launched in a week’s time.

Decision to carry originals of
licences opposedLorry owners have urged the
state government to withdraw the decision to make it compulsory for drivers to carry originals of their driving licences, from September. On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu transport minister said the decision was ne-cessitated because many drivers submitted photocopies even after their original licences had been suspended or revoked after being caught for road-traffic related of-fences. In a statement on Wednes-day, R Sugumar, president of the Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners Federa-tion said if the government wants to reduce accidents “they have to discuss“ the issue with lorry, light motor vehicles, auto rickshaws and two-wheeler associations, “before taking a decision“. The lorry owners may hold a protest or a strike.

Dug Up Road Causes Traffic SnarlsBy Our Correspondent
Traffic snarls have become common over the past fort-
night on the Shanthi Col-
ony Road near the 13th Main Road Junction in Anna Nagar thanks to the road digging operations undertaken by the Chen-nai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB or Metrowater as it is known in popular parlance).
Contractors engaged by the Metrowater have dug up the road lay under-ground pipelines on the stretch. The road has been dug up on one side of the road due to which vehi-cles coming from the Shanthi Colony end are unable to proceed to the
100 Feet Road. Instead, they take the right hand lane for a few yards before proceeding to the 100 Feet Road.
“Essentially one side of
the road has been made into two-way lane. So while vehicles swerve to take the road to 100 Feet Roada traf f ic jam is caused.
What adds to the con-gestion is the fact that ve-hicles headed to Thiru-mangalam also take a right turn at this very spot. Con-sequently there is utter chaos,” says Ramakrish-n a n T h i a g a r a j a n , a 45-something man on a two-wheeler sans a helmet.
When heavy vehicles take the road it becomes all the more difficult for the drivers to negotiate on
this stretch. “During peak hours there is utter confu-sion at this place. At least the Chennai City Traffic Police should look at the possibility of rerouting
oncoming traffic towards the Anna Nagar Roundta-na-Thirumangalam Road during morning time say between 8 am and 11 am and during evening time from 5 pm to 9 pm. On-coming vehicles headed to 100 Feet Road could be diverted to take a right turn at the road leading to Blue Star and only vehicles proceeding to 13th Main Road Metro Rail Station could be allowed on this stretch,” suggests Maniva-nan, an office-goer, who complains about getting struck at the junction for about five minutes every
day.“Alternatively, they
could make the stretch one way up to the road leading to Blue Star after Sundaram Medical Foun-dationHospital . That would be more practical with no inbound traffic from the Shanthi Colony end till the contractors engaged by Metrowater complete their pipeline laying operations,” he adds.
“This suggestion of mine is not unreasonable considering that during the Metro Rail construc-tion work, a part of this very road was restricted for two-way traffic for a distance of about 500 me-ters,” explains Manivanan.

Aadhaar must for open school exams
Aadhaar will now be mandatory for those ap-pearing for open school exams to ensure there are no proxy candidates appearing on others’ behalf. Following ap-proval from the HRD Ministry, the National Institute of Open Learn-ing (NIOS) has decided to make Aadhaar man-datory for candidates appearing for the next examination. “During the exams held in March, the inspection teams had found proxy candidates who were appearing on other stu-dents’ behalf. To check this practice, Aadhaar has been made manda-tory. “There will also be scanner machines at examination centres and only those students whose thumb prints match with the existing data be allowed to give exams,“according to an official.
Saline water in Aminjikarai
Hydrogeologists have found that the water quality has become sa-line in Aminjikarai, Ashok Nagar, Nungam-bakkam and Rangaraja-puram in Kodambak-kam, though these lo-calities are located around 10 kms away from the sea. This is considered alarming as bore wells are being sunk in many parts of the city. It is still not clear if the salinity in the bore wells has been caused by sea water intrusion or other reasons. This is being studied said officials.

Litany of civic complaintsSir,
Mogappair is a fast growing residen-tial-cum-commercial locality with many educational institutions and business establishments. But it has a litany of civic complaints right from absence of proper drainage pipe lines to huge pot-holes on the roads hampering the smooth flow of traffic. The monsoon unpreparedness of the civic authorities has resulted in potholes on the roads which hamper the smooth flow of traf-fic especially during office hours much to the discomfiture of the school chil-dren and office-goers reaching their destinations late. Rain or shine, this locality seems to be a neglected one by the authorities of Ambattur Municipal-
ity for the reasons best known to them. The irony is it was annexed to the Chen-nai Corporation a few years ago but no developments could be seen hitherto.

dog menace in shravan streetSir,
I would like to bring to your no-tice the dog menace faced by resi-dents and visitors in our area. There are many dogs in our area which continuously bark and at times even chase residents. It’s high time the corporation authorities take action to get rid of this problem at the earliest.

The Shri Murugan Ves se l S tore s in Mogappair West is
one of the busiest stores which sells a large variety of household items and won the trust of a cross section of residents of Mogappair. Evenings are very busy as people throng the shop between 6 pm and 9 pmdaily.
P Narayanan, owner of the store says, “I started this shop in 2006. Since then I ventured into lot of new things and emerged successfully. We sell many products right from vessels, brass, stationary, gift items, plastic products, aluminum vessels and other kitchen items such as gas stove, cooker and other items. I am opening a new shop on September 3 on the Bus Stand Main Road, where we will be selling furniture and electronic goods such as Television, Fridge and Washing Machine”
Narayanan had decided to venture into the business which is known to him. “My father had been run-ning a vessels’ shop since 1962. That shop’s name is Shri Murugan Vessel Stores. Only three years ago we

had sold off the shop. My experiences with that shop only gave me confidence to start a new shop. The nu-ances that I had learned from my father are of much help for me. We take rea-sonable profit and sell qual-ity products, which is the reason why people keep coming to us,” he added.
When asked how he managed at the time of GST rollout, he said, “It was really very difficult. But we did not have other option. We had to change the entire software with revised rates. It was te-dious and the business was very low at the time of the introduction of GST and now it is getting better and stable.”
“We have 20 workers in our shop and we work from 9 am to 9 pm for almost 365 days in a year. Cus-tomer satisfaction is our
primary motto. If we at-tend to them with care then they will come back to us. We also make door deliv-ery and we never charge for that service. We do ex-change old vessels for new vessels. All the kitchen ware services are carried out. Fixing handles for ves-sels, cookers and repairing the kitchen electronic goods can also be done in our shop. We service them well and so the customers
get satisfied. We procure products from different parts of the country like Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai and Madurai etc. We get the best products from each area that’s why we are able to bring in the best quality products. Our customers are the happy lots” he said.

Anna Flyover inspected Engineers engaged by Chennai Metro
Rail are monitoring and inspecting the Anna Flyover, the city’s oldest flyover un-veiled in the 1970s, to ensure its structural stability during the ongoing tunnel boring works.
Two tunnels connecting Thousand Lights with AG-DMS across the flyover will be ready by October. According to reports, engineers have installed yellow markers at specific intervals on one side of the flyover to continuously monitor soil settlement that may be triggered due to tunnel boring. At present, two tunnels are being built on either side of the flyover at a depth of 22m. As the tunnels proceed straight from Thousand Lights towards AG-DMS, they bend near the flyover to skirt its foundation.
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Dis-tribution Company (TANGEDCO) has issued notices to 12 commercial establish-ments in Chennai’s commercial hub of T Nagar for using unau-thorised electricity connections. The ac-tion was taken follow-ing inspection under-taken after the recent fire accident at the multi-storied Chennai Silks building in the commercial hub.
Officials said they had received records from the Chennai Metropolitan Devel-
opment Authority on various shops in T Nagar and found that 12 of them have built at least three floors beyond the permitted limit. As per the Elec-tricity Act, power con-nect ion to f loors which are illegal is also treated as unau-thorised. “We will wait for the shops to reply to our notices within two months. If the shops don’t reply to the notices, we have to cut power lines on the floors which are unauthorised,” an of-ficial was quoted as saying.

Metro line trial on Anna Salai to begin next month
Trial runs with metro trains on the 4-km underground stretch between Saidapet and AG-DMS may begin by the end of September or October, as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has plans to open the line before the rest of the stretch in arterial Anna Salai is ready .
Several critical systems including sig-nals and platform screen doors will be tested during the trials. The line is likely
to undergo a series of inspections to get approval for commercial operations early next year.
No plaster of Paris GaneshaThe Madras High Court has banned
Ganesha idols made of plaster of Paris and the use of high decibel fireworks between 10 pm and 6 am during Vi-nayaka Chathurthi celebrations this year. Besides, the first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar
while disposing of two PILs directed the state government to lay down guidelines for the temporary installation of idols for the celebrations of the festival. “It is needless to mention that no idol can be installed except with permission from the police commissioner, and in compli-ance with the conditions imposed by the officer,” the bench said. The ban on plaster of Paris Ganeshas was imposed to ensure that the sea is not polluted when the idols are immersed. Instead idols made of clays can be used.
Actor injuredA cinematographer turned actor Aruldoss
A Arockiadoss suffered minor fractures after a jeep ran over one of his feet at the shooting of Rajinikant-starrer Kaala at Poonamallee recently. According to crew members Aruldoss did not notice a speeding van approaching him and the vehicle ran over his left foot. The actor was taken to a hospital. The movie shooting is being held at the EVP world at Nazarathpet where acclaimed upcoming director Pa Ranjith has created a set that looks like Mumbai’s Dharavi.

oming in a powerful message with the backdrop of North Madras turned out to be a delightful experience for debutant director Veludoss Gnanasambandam.
Two films as associate with Kalanjiyam was worth its weight in gold and then it was time to take the plunge in ‘Aakkam’.
That the movie having weathered the storm of the first week and getting added number of theatres in the second week has been positives for Veludoss. As to the reason for detailing the ordeals of the ones living in North Madras, “it was in difference to the wishes of first-time producers Selvam and Raja. I was clear in my lines but South Madras was in mind. It meant a slight alteration to the script line but nevertheless richer by all the experience.”
On the message line that it does not pay to fol-low the dictum for the next generation to faith-fully following the path set by the elders, Veludoss said the inspiration for the plot stemmed from an experience where he saw the mother and her teen-aged son dancing merrily as if there is no tomorrow at the funeral of a relative. There is a clear message at the end of it for the youngsters that easy money at the expense of their studies is a frightening thing for the tomorrow. Ifyou live by the knife your end-ing will also come in the same fashion.
The hard hitting dialogues were deliberately structured for the telling impact. My protagonist frets and fumes at his wasteful years but the girl in his life vows to render a better meaning to their child.”
Shooting at the live locations of Royapuram, Basin Bridge, Pencil Factory, Kasimedu and Moolakodai gave an added sheen to the realistic script. “The shooting part was demanding as the unit had to shoot amidst a noisy crowd and a nauseating ambience. But then, realism would have taken a back seat if I had gone for an erected set. Iguess, all the efforts had paid off in a big way. Visiting the theatres to find an appreciative audi-ence has given a fulfilment.”
Getting ready with his next script, there is the director’s assurance of a rich content but seen from the poor angle.

Taking on the might of ̀ Vivegam’ is the relatively small-
budgeted for `Thappat-tam’, both having released an August 24. Unfazed are the lead actor Sudha-kar and first-time pro-ducer Adam Bawa, who has already announced that the entire collection will be given to the farm-ers who had protested in Delhi of getting their rights.
When Sudhakar said without batting an eyelid that by the end of next year, 10 films of his will get released, eyebrows certainly got raised. ``Well, it was all due to the word-of-mouth pub-licity generated by the technicians during the making of my supposed debut film `Kaliattattam’. But then, `Thappattam’ has jumped the gun and am sure that the contents are rich to negate the unintended title.”
A lawyer by profession in Tanjore, Sudhakar said his passion for films made him plunge headlong in a medium, ̀ `which is slow-
ly opening its doors for every talent worth his salt. During my school and college days, movies of big names were noth-ing short of a festival. Deep inside me, the pas-sion got ignited and well, here I am all set for an entry.”
On the tag of `Public Star’ nestled around his name, Sudhakar said he did not buy that but the title was bestowed on him by the people, who had watched in awe of the affection with which the unit members were treat-ed by the production unit.”
Candidly, the debutant said the movie has no messages or preaching around with the happen-ings centered around a small hamlet. ̀ `The prob-lems are the same for a common man, be it in a City or a village.
When there is no un-derstanding between a matured couple, it does reflect badly in the future generations. No one had to really put up an act in such a script, with every
artiste getting the desired space.
Narrated in natural ways, room has to be made for five songs in keeping with the back-drop of a village ambi-ence where `Tiruvizhas’ are the order of the day.
Producer’s take “We had announced the re-lease date of our film much ear l ier. Even though it is made on a small budget, the film will
be releasing over 100 screens owing to its good content. I am happy that my film will grab the at-tention when released alongside Vivegam,” says Adham Bava.
Happy he is that when lawyer and farmer P Ayyakannu, who led the farmers protest in Delhi recently, called him to appreciate the good ges-ture of giving the collec-tion to the farmers.
PlAyING VIDEO GAMES may cut stress at workDo you feel stressed out, frustrated or anxious at work? Playing video games may help, researchers say.
The research findings showed that people who played a casual video game exhibited greater engagement and affective restora-tion than normal relaxation condition.
Playing a video game even restored the individuals’ affective abilities, making it a suitable ac-tivity for restoring mood in re-sponse to stress.
On the other hand, those who took a silent rest break reported that they felt less engaged with
work and experienced wor-ry as a result, whereas
those who participated in the guided relax-
ation activity saw reductions in neg-
ative affect and distress.
“We of-ten t r y to power thro-ugh the day
to get more work finished, which might not be as effective as taking some time to detach for a few minutes. People should plan short breaks to make time for an engag-ing and enjoyable activity, such as video games, that can help them recharge,” says a study.
The study, detailed in the jour-nal Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergo-nomics Society, may have impli-cations for those working in safety-critical fields, such as air traffic control and healthcare.
For the study, the researches used a computer-based task to induce cognitive fatigue in 66 participants, who were then given a five-minute rest break.
During the break, participants either played a casual video game called Sushi Cat, participated in a guided relaxation activity, or sat quietly in the testing room with-out using a phone or computer.

library helps girl pass TNPSC Group I Exam
The librarian said that the room was built by a donor and these facilities had genuinely helped the girl. These days many IAS coaching centres are there but many feel that facili-ties in this government li-brary are too good and that gives us sense of sat-isfaction. Our staff mem-bers need to be appreciat-
ed. They are the ones who facilitate the students for their preparation in terms of logistics support. We also organized a small function in our library ap-preciating Shabhana’s achievement, he added.
While talking to Mogap-pair Mail, Shabhana said , “They allotted a separate room for IAS aspirants and that was opened by Udhayachandran IAS, he gave us lot of tips and sug-gested many books which were very useful. The li-brary has many books, magazines and monthly manuals which are very costly. The ambience was very good, we will not have any disturbance such a peaceful atmosphere.”

edge. We provide them with a special room and lot of study materials. Our staff members are highly co-operative and they fa-cilitated the students with lot of patience. Now it is certainly a memorable moment for us as a girl who prepared here by visiting this place almost everyday had cleared such a prestigious exam in her first attempt. More than that girl, our staff mem-bers were very happy as if they cleared the exam. Shabhana also came and gave a letter thanking us to record her sense of grati-tude.
