Erythroblastic Anemia Causes The reason why these are considered quantitative diseases of hemoglobin is because the quantity of hemoglobin produced or absent. ( which is made up of alpha globin, beta globin, and heme.) Test or diagnosis/Treatment Mild cases may require no treatment . In more severe cases blood transfusions may b e required. NO tx- those with thalassemia minor Blood transfusion- life long for those with severe homozygous form Chelation Therapy-to manage iron overload related to frequent blood transfusions Management of vitamin E- Stem Cell transplant Splenectomy Signs and Symptoms These appear within the first 2 yrs of life. Infants become pale and listless, have poor appetites, grow slowly, and often develop jaundice. Spleen, liver, or heart my have a form of enlargement.
