• Establish a time and place f or homework. • Together, create a working space, f ree of distractions. • Turn off the TV. • Make an organizational chart. Commitment f or f ollow-through for you and your child is important. Review Chapter 5, Do I t!, f or organizational chart templates. Rewards based on chart results are of ten helpful. • Remember, it’s his homework, not yours. • His job is to do the work and f ace the consequences if he f ails to do what’s expected. You need to determine ahead of time what the consequences will be if he doesn’t do the work. Don’t spring a surprise.

Practice visualizing at home or at your sports activity

• Visualize using a lot of detail: color, size, shape, f orm. The more the detail, the more real the experience seems (See I t!). • I nclude other sensory systems especially hearing and touching/ f eeling— even the smell of the surroundings. • I nclude movement and motion (running, walking, jumping). • Go through specific action sequences. • Envision alternatives—if you f alter, how do you recover? • Be aware of other things around you (people, field, lighting). • State your declaration loud and clearly (Say I t!). • Practice f requently (Do I t!). • Breathe! • Relax. • Have f un.
