God looked around his garden and found an empty place; he then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God ’s garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering , he knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb; So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered, ‘Peace be

thine’ . It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn ’t go alone... For part of us went with you the day God called you home.

Thressa Ann McMillan Floyd had a warrior spirit. She was a queen warrior ready for battle to defend her girls; a warrior fighting to maintain her independence throughout illness; and

a warrior in her belief that she was redeemed by Christ.

Thressa transitioned from labor to her rest and heavenly reward on July 28, 2020. She was the fourth eldest of twelve children born to the late Montgomery McMillan and Erdie Lee McKoy McMillan. Her

educational path included the much revered John H. Hayswood High School in Lumberton, North Carolina and Robeson Community College.

A young and spicy Thressa met her future husband Raeford around the tender age of sixteen and the two shared 35 years of marriage. The union nurtured five children of whom Thressa and Raeford were highly protective. The pair raised their four girls to respect the elders and to always put their best foot

forward. Thressa also taught her girls to stand up for themselves.

She spent over two decades employed with the Converse Shoe Company from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, followed by a steady tenure with the Walmart Corporation. After her husband passed and the kids grew into adulthood, Walmart became her new place for community and family. Thressa loved

serving her longtime church Bethany Presbyterian in many ways, from singing on the choir, to ushering, and serving meals on special occasions. In her later years she developed a love of travel but

fondest of all was spending time with her adorable and beloved grandkids.

Thressa is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Dennis, and five siblings: Lydia, George, Tony (Copeland), Tommy, and Tina.

Left to treasure Thressa memories are: four daughters: Tammy (Tony) McNeil (Lumberton, NC),

April-Darlene Floyd-Leake (Lumberton, NC), Rachel Floyd-Nelson (Atlanta, GA), and Robyn Floyd (Lumberton, NC); four sisters: Jacklyn, Melody, Geno, and Crystal; one brother,

Clyde; three grandsons: Second LT. Lathan Nelson (Ft. Benning, GA), Jamal Leake (Lumberton), and Anray McNeil (Lumberton, NC); two granddaughters: Maya McNeil (Greenville, NC) and Mahogany

Floyd (Lumberton, NC); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends will sorely miss her. Thressa's fire and energy in the atmosphere cannot be extinguished.

We little knew that morning That God was going to call your name,

In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.

For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories,

Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you,

you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken,

And nothing seems the same; But as God calls us home one by one,

The chain will link again.

Interment Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery

We walked the path of this life, hand in hand, heart to heart, Joined as one, Husband and Wife, until we had to part. Death is a curious idea, my love for you is very real,

It pains me to live without you near, it’s something time will never heal. Now my darling, I close my eyes, and imagine your smiling face,

As my spirit flies towards the skies, and I’m reunited with you in grace. No one could truly be mourning, if they just knew how grateful I am,

I’m with you and it’s like a summer’s morning, joined forever, woman and man. I look briefly at the ones who have to live on, in the world of trials and strife,

But I know you’ll be fine, you wont go wrong, you too, will leave this life. Do not be down, don’t you frown, let go of your sorrow!

Because soon there’ll be a glorious sound, and a promise of tomorrow.

Today is that tomorrow we have waited for.

Raeford and Thressa are reunited again!
