HistoryAdmiral Lord Duncan (1731-1804) owned Lundie Castle and is credited with lifting the threat of Napoleonic invasion when he defeated the Dutch fleet at Camperdown in 1797. After the Battle of Camperdown it is understood he relocated the family seat to Lundie House, which now sits in the grounds of Camperdown Park on the edge of Dundee.

The PropertyIt is worth noting that the present owners have recently carried out a programme of energy efficiency improvements throughout the property including items such as solar PV panels

(benefitting from the Feed-in Tariffs scheme), solar power diverter, a power converter and secondary glazing to most windows.

Lundie Castle House occupies a rural position, facing south on the hill above Lundie Castle Farm with views to the Sidlaw Hills. This 18th century property was built from the stone and sits on the site of the 16th century Lundie Castle, and is C-listed with accommodation arranged over 3 floors. The house is approached through a vestibule, which leads into a welcoming hallway with fitted bookshelves, and a stone staircase. The substantial drawing room is approached via impressive double doors and features a beautiful Adam-style open fireplace and has 2 separate doors to the garden. The dining room has dual aspect and an open fireplace. The breakfasting kitchen, which has direct access to a garden terrace, has an LPG fired Aga and separate range. Situated off the vestibule is a cloakroom, with a good range of fitted wall units, and a separate WC, and a further hall with doors off to the utility room and study.

On the first floor is the bedroom accommodation. Bedroom 1 enjoys a double aspect and benefits from a spacious bathroom and dressing room/Bedroom 5 (presently this room is accessed through Bedroom 1). There are 2 further well-proportioned bedrooms, which are served by a family bathroom. A staircase leads up to the master suite with dressing area and bathroom which features a free-standing bath centred around a lovely bay window.

OutsideThe beautiful, mature gardens and grounds of Lundie Castle House extend to about 1.29 acres. The property enjoys wonderful views from all aspects over the surrounding countryside with exceptional views of the Sidlaw Hills to the northeast. There is a courtyard to the rear of the house, which is approached by a double, gravel driveway. To the east side of the drive, is a large area of lawn with mature trees and a summerhouse. To the south, a gateway leads through a dry stone dyke to an area of woodland with the remains of the ruined cottage, which may provide potential for development, subject to planning permission being granted.

A wrought iron gate leads from the courtyard to a side garden enclosed by stone walls with a lawn and an ornate statue flanked by well-stocked borders of shrubs. A gated archway leads from the side garden through to the kitchen garden, with raised vegetable beds and two greenhouses. A further gate leads

from the side garden to a south area of garden contained by low stone walls, which can be also approached from doorways leading out from the kitchen and drawing room.

OutbuildingsSituated off the courtyard, is a game larder, which benefits from electric power. To the north side of the courtyard, is a substantial barn and stable block constructed of wood under a pitched slate roof, which benefits from a floored loft and offers useful stores comprising 3 loose boxes, 2 stable bays and tack room. There is also a kennel and log store.
