STEWARDSHIPCORNER“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” – Luke 1:28

After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward. Her entire life was lived in obedience to God’s call. Mary teaches us to live with joy for all we have been given. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ. Like Mary, we are called to reflect Christ’s light to the world through our gratitude and generosity.

SPACE IS AVAILABLE IN OUR CEMETERYBurial plots are available in the west section of our cemetery which is located across the street from the church. A single plot is 10’ X 5’ and currently costs $1,000. As of March 1, 2021, the cost of a single plot will increase to $1,500. One full body or three cremains (or a combination) can be buried in a single plot. When visiting the cemetery, FOR YOUR SAFETY, please park on Range Line road or in the Lumen Christi parking lot. Do not park on Mequon road.

If you are considering an above ground burial, there is space available in our columbaria. Each niche costs $2,700 and holds up to two urns.

Please see our Cemetery brochure with information on both in-ground and above-ground burials. It can be found in the parish office or at lumenchristiparish.org/funeral.

To discuss your burial needs, please contact Jane Bartlett, Director of Finance, at [email protected] or Fran Blaubach, Parish Administrative Assistant, at [email protected] or at 262-242-7967.

BLESSING OF A CHRISTMAS TREEThe use of the Christmas tree is relatively modern. Its origins are found in the medieval mystery plays that depicted the tree of paradise and the Christmas light or candle that symbolized Christ, the Light of the world.

According to custom, the Christmas tree is set up just before Christmas and may remain in place until the Solemnity of Epiphany.

The lights of the tree are illuminated after the prayer of blessing. (© USCCB)

Blessing:Lord our God, we praise you for the light of creation: the sun, the moon, and the stars of the night.

We praise you for the light of Israel: the Law, the prophets, and the wisdom of the Scriptures.

We praise you for Jesus Christ, your Son: he is Emmanuel, God-with-us, the Prince of Peace, who fills us with the wonder of your love.

Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we illumine this tree.

May the light and cheer it gives be a sign of the joy that fills our hearts. May all who delight in this tree come to the knowledge and joy of salvation.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. (© USCCB)

ST. ANDREW DINNERTuesday, December 29, 2020 | 5:00 PMThe Archdiocese of Milwaukee's Vocation Office is hosting a St. Andrew Dinner at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. A St. Andrew Dinner gives priests an opportunity to invite young men (high school age or older) who think they have the qualities needed to be a good priest. The evening will include Mass, dinner, discussion and witness talks to the priesthood from seminarians. Individual dinners will be provided and social distancing protocol will be adhered to.

This year men currently in high school will be invited to a pre-event discussion about College Seminary beginning at 3pm. An additional opportunity will also be available to young adult men aged 18 and older to attend a Come and See event following the dinner, including an overnight stay and participating in seminary life.

Reserve your space by contacting Emma Hegarty at [email protected] or (414) 747-6437. If you are under the age of 18, please have your parents fill out and scan the permission form that can be found at www.thinkpriest.org.

DEDICATION MASS ANNIVERSARYDecember 22nd will be the first anniversary of the dedication of our beautiful new worship space! During the Dedication Mass, the four Dedication Candles (located on the dark beams), were lit for the first time. They can subsequently be lit on the anniversary of a church's dedication and their feast day! The Our Spiritual Home liturgical booklet (pg. 10) talks about the significance of light:

In sacred space, light provides ambience of a heavenly nature, one that transcends human senses. Accordingly, an essential element in the design of Lumen Christi Church is the use of light, both natural and artificial. The sun floods the sanctuary with direct light and the light reflected and diffused from the Spiritus Window above the altar. The natural light of the four Dedication Candles and the Easter Candle seasonally help dispel darkness. Additionally, the stained glass windows on the chapel walls absorb daylight and fill the chapel with colorful streams. Indirect lights designed uniquely for Lumen Christi bathe the vaulted ceiling of the church with pleasing light that enhances visibility for the entire assembly. Also, the beautiful Stations of the Cross are distinctly lit and easily identified. Lumen Christi, illuminated by light in new and meaningful ways, inspires all to glance heavenward and to be the Light of Christ in the world today.
