an arcaded marketplace, the birth-

places and homes of famous writers

and thinkers such as Schiller, Mörike

the historical military barracks, now

hunting residence in 1704,

Ludwigsburg soon grew into a

prospering city – a city of palaces –

under Duke Eberhard Ludwig.

The palace was built between 1704

and 1733 during the rule of Duke

Eberhard Ludwig. In former times,

latter is one of the oldest theatres

former times the reception rooms

large archives about life in the

so-called »Kuhländchen«, a region

in Sudetenland for which Ludwigs-

burg became a sponsor in 1961.

At the Schorndorf Gatehouse, the

Ludwigsburg branch of the

Federal Archive shows an exhibition

about the investigation of National

Socialist crimes.

lange Jahre einzige Strafanstalt

im Land. Im Strafvollzugsmuseum

können Sie nacherleben, wie sich

aus dem barocken Zucht- und

Arbeitshaus eine moderne Justiz-

vollzugsanstalt entwickelte. Die

eindrucksvolle Ausstellung zeigt

viele Original-Exponate – von der

komplett eingerichteten Zelle bis

zur funktionsfähigen Guillotine.

Prison Museum, visitors can learn

how the Baroque jail and work-

house developed into a modern

correctional facility. The impres-
