Maria,whoisonlyafewclassesshortofattainingherMaster’sdegree,hassincereceivedmoreresponsibilityatherjob.Shealsostartedherowncleaningbusinessandworksparttimetryingtogrowthatbusiness. “LSSNOopeneddoorsforme.Theygavemetheencouragementtodosomethingotherthanjustlivingatthepovertylevel.”

Areyoulookingforawaytohelpsecureyourfamily’sfuturewhilemakingagifttocharity?It’spossibletoachievethesegoalsandenjoyvaluableincomeandestatetaxsavingswithaGiveitTwiceTrust.ThistrustmayworkwelltocreateequalinheritanceforyourchildrenwhilehelpingLSS.Atypicalestateplanwilltransferaportionoftheestateoutrighttochildren.ThenanIRAorotherassetsaretransferredtofundatermofyearscharitableremainderunitrust.Sincetheunitrustistax-exempt,noincometaxispaidwhentheIRAisdistributedtothetrust.ThefullIRAvalueisinvestedandpaysincometoyourchildrenforupto20years.Attheendofthistime,thetrustremainderisdistributedtocharity.Formoreinformation,pleasecallKeithPhillips,majorgiftsofficer,[email protected].
PartofthemissionofLSSistoidentifyunmetneedsinourcommunity.Onesuchneedisprovidingemergencyfoodaidforthecommunityoutsideofourpantryprograms.SowhenlocalcompanyTeleperformanceCorporationpurchasedtwotruckloadsoffoodfromFeedTheChildren,anationalorganizationthatdistributesfoodandothercommoditiestononprofitorganizations,weknewjustwhattodo. Twodistributionsweresetupinareaswheretheneedwasgreat-St.PeterCatholicChurchinWorthingtonandWestgateParkintheHilltoparea.Families,whopre-registered,receivedboxeswithathree-daysupplyofnon-perishablefooditemsincludingsoup,spaghettisauce,pasta,peanutbutterandcannedfruitsandvegetables.Therewerealsotwotruckloadsoffreshproduceonhandthatfamiliescouldchoosefrom. Inadditiontothesespecialdistributions,theSullivantAve.,CaldwellandFairfieldCountyfoodpantrieshavebeenhostingfamersmarketswherefamiliescangetfreshproducetosupplementthefoodtheyreceivefromthepantry.Sofarthissummer,theproducehasincludedplums,sweetpotatoes,cucumbers,zucchini,

carrots,summersquashandmuchmore. Throughbothofthesetypesofdistributions,nearly5,500peoplereceivedfoodthatmayhaveotherwisegonehungry.Thatequalsanadditional144,424poundsoffooddistributedtothecommunity. OnefarmersmarketattendeetoldanLSSstaffmember“Iwasjustwonderingthismorninghowweweregoingtogetenoughfoodfortherestofthemonth,andthenIoverheardaguytalkingaboutfreefruitsandvegetablesinthechurchparkinglot.Thisisananswertoourprayers.”
Thisyear’sLSSDaywiththeClipperswasasuccess!Ticketsweresoldoutawholeweekbeforetheevent,showingonceagainwhatgreatsupportwereceivefromourchurchandindividualsupporters. programsandservices.Byprovidingfoodtothesinglemotherwithhungrychildren,givingthehomelessmanaplacetoresthisheadwhilehesearchesforajobandofferinghopetothefamilywholosttheirhometoatornado–theseactionsareallareflectionoftheloveChristhasforallofus.
