On both November 13 and 30, a 48-foot semi-trailer was loaded at the LSS Distribution Center in Caldwell with blankets, cleaning supplies, water, hygiene kits, nonperishable

food items, school supplies and flood buckets. The trucks went to Brooklyn, N.Y. and helped serve many families on Staten Island. A third truck is scheduled to make the trip on December 21. Donations can be delivered or shipped to the LSS Distribution Center/ Sandy Relief at 810 Main St, Caldwell, Ohio 43724.

Faith Mission, a program of Lutheran Social Services, has some exciting news!  The Faith Mission administration building, clinics and Community Kitchen will relocate to a larger and better-equipped space for our needs.  The new location, at 245 N. Grant Ave, is two blocks away from our current administration building.  Now the Community Kitchen, which serves anyone in the community who is hungry, provides roughly 1000 meals a day.  At the new location, the number of people served at one sitting will nearly triple.  This means less people will have to wait outside for a meal.  Additionally, the free clinics and administrative services will have more space that is better suited for their needs.  The relocation, however, does not include the men’s shelters on 6th Street and

8th Avenue or Nancy’s Place.  They will remain in their current locations.  We thank you for your support during this exciting and hectic time as we look forward to providing more-efficient and dignified services to those we serve.

President’s Message

Dear Friends, The Christmas season is a special time of the year. The spirit of giving is in full force and this is what makes the season so rewarding. Being able to see a child’s face light up when he or she opens the perfect present on Christmas morning or knowing you have a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member is what makes the holidays so special. Imagine how much more rewarding it can be to provide food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless and other vital services to people who are in need. You, our faithful supporters, have the opportunity to bless someone and be blessed in incredible ways this holiday season. As we do each year at this time, we are offering our Christmas angel ornaments. For a donation of $75 for a silver ornament or $150 for a gold ornament, you will receive this commemoration of a Christmas tradition founded on love for others. In years to come,

Treating the Whole Person When Cathy came to The Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Healthcare Campus (TGS), she thought she was only going to get treatment for her COPD and other health issues. Little did she know the experience would change her life. After suffering from a severe shortness of breath and multiple falls, Cathy was admitted to TGS’ rehab facility after a stay in the hospital. When it was time to be discharged, Cathy confided in a staff member that she was worried about going home. She, her husband and their adult son lived in a house with no utilities, which was going to be a real issue as Cathy needs electricity for her oxygen machine. After hearing her story, the staff member contacted TGS’ outreach ministry, and they were able to

get the power company to turn her electric back on because of Cathy’s medical condition. She also received food from the TGS food pantry, was signed up to receive a Thanksgiving meal basket and referred to other local services that provide assistance. Now that Cathy’s back at home, TGS staff members continue to work with her, especially on budgeting. Cathy and her husband have even joined the waiting list to live at Good Shepherd Villa, LSS’ senior affordable housing community located next to TGS. “I cannot express enough gratitude for all the kind and caring things that happened to us due to The Good Shepherd. We continue to struggle with more obstacles, but for every one a good thing also comes our way,” said Cathy.

we hope that when you hang this ornament on your Christmas tree, you will remember not only our gratitude but also the gratitude of the people we serve together. Your gift can help ensure a hungry family is able to eat on Christmas day, a man living on the streets has a warm place to sleep and so many other services are provided to people in need.

If you’d like to be a Christmas “angel,” please call 614.228.5200, ext. 1650 or make your donation on our secure website at www.lssco.org/ornament. Thank you!

With Christmas blessings,
