CONFLUENCES may be considered to be a trailblazer in terms of the newtrend for ‘counterforms’ as characterised by the interwoven yin-yang or puz-zle-type effect. It will be just as pleasing to lovers of radical design, pioneerssearching for a settee which is totally different from any other, as it will to allthose who are seduced first & foremost by the freedom of posture and un-heard-of conviviality offered by its colourful, unbridled compositions. Theuse of just one armrest or sofa end table is recommended, to be used in asym-metrical fashion. Lumbar cushion filled with pure duck down. Removable co-vers. Each item is offered in a monocolour interpretation (Indiana, Diva & thefabrics listed hereafter) or a bicolour interpretation whereby colours may beselected from a choice of combinations specified by the designer using thefollowing fabrics : Divina, Topas, Pause, Sudden, Coda, Curl & Pure. The first2 colours from each combination are recommended for 2-seat items; the first3 colours for 3-seat items; & the 4th colour for the 4-seat settee. Colour no.1 applies to the right-hand sitting position; colour no. 2 to the adjacent seatplace; & so on. Other colour permutations, or the choice of another colourfrom the same fabric family, are also possible. In the case of the arm & lum-bar cushions, any covering material may be chosen.

PUMPKIN is characteristic of the revolutionary style of Pierre Paulin, as in-itiated at the end of the 1950’s. He effectively liberated the design of seatingby treating each piece as a unique volume, more or less sculpted from foam& not necessarily resting on four feet: an approach which brought extraordi-nary freedom in terms of form, liberating seating as it did from traditional me-thods of assembly & orthogonal lines. As its name suggests PUMPKIN isevocative of a giant pumpkin, welcoming the user with its protectively vo-luptuous – & voluptuously protective – shell. Resisting its appeal is an im-possibility!

Compact dimensions, a high level of comfort & strikingly unusual looks areall hallmarks of this distinctive model. Items may be made up in a selectionof fabrics from the Ligne Roset range, with toning or contrasting stitching(ecru, anthracite, grey, red or blue). Each cover requires hundreds of metresof stitching (210m for the large settee, using 700m of thread). Covers arequilted in 5cm bands & may be removed for dry cleaning. A matching rug inCoda fabric is also available: this is quilted in 12cm bands, & always has to-ning stitching.

Designed for an easy, carefree way of life, TOGO has been a best-seller eversince its launch in the early Seventies. The first all-foam settee, TOGO com-bines five different densities of foam for maximum comfort. Covers are ge-nerously quilted with polyester material, & may be removed by an upholste-rer for dry cleaning. The wide choice of covering materials helps TOGO re-main just as contemporary today as it always has been. Please see armchairschapter for details of MINI TOGO.

MOEL’s generous comfort, soft curves & unique appearance will appeal tolovers of an informal, relaxed lifestyle, who want to welcome guests in themost convivial way possible. Rear of back, in the shape of the corolla of a flo-wer, can be made up in gold, brown or black Catala bullhide, Oregon hide,or Divina or Coda fabrics. Decorative rear feet covered to match frame. In-ga Sempé recommends a bicolour interpretation (same covering material ontop of footstool & corolla of armchair/settee, & a different one for structureof footstool & ‘inside’ covers of armchair/settee).

Mobility & diversity are trends which have always influenced the work of Pas-cal Mourgue. All elements in the PATCHWORK collection are thereforeboth mobile and adaptable, with one single settee able to answer to a widevariety of situations. By combining the elements in different ways, 14 diffe-rent seating configurations can be achieved, all of which are available in 2 fa-bric ‘families’: Kvadrat (bases in Divina, seats in Topas, backs in Harald) or Tre-ves; a monocolour interpretation is also available, in Divina, Topas, Harald,Alcantara, Treves or Indiana hide.

DOWNTOWN provides the perfect answer to the requirements of modernlife: an ingenious, innovative & atypical multi-function settee which invitesyou to sit, lounge, sleep, play… Range includes medium & large settee, fire-side chair & chaise longue. All items are based around a multi-articulated me-tal frame faced in panels of multi-ply with thermoformed sides. Suspensionvia elastic webbing. The fireside chair folds out to become a large footrest,whilst the chaise longue transforms into a 206 cm long bed.

Impressive looks, generous proportions, clean lines & well-defined groundclearance are the hallmarks of this unique model: small wonder that it is nownumbered amongst our classics. Range includes settee, 1-arm settee with leftor right arm, & footstool. Back & armrests may be positioned at any one ofthree levels (NB don’t sit on the arms when in raised position!). The setteemay be used as a day or guest bed, & a fitted sheet may be ordered for thispurpose.

Available in a modular (large long corners, corner settees, 1-arm settees &chaises longue) or ‘traditional’ version (small & large settees), SKETCH com-bines thick seat cushions with 2 sizes of back cushions. Given the shape ofthe seat cushions, corner groups may only be formed using the followingcombinations: large long arm settee/ R + large 1-arm settee/ R, large cornersettee/ R or large chaise longue/ R; large long arm settee/ L+ large 1-arm set-tee/ L, large corner settee/ L or large chaise longue/ L. A combination of co-ordinating fabrics is ideal for this model, with one fabric on the seat, anotheron the large cushions & a third on the small cushions.

A modular collection of seating which is both rigorous and convivial, MAL-HOUN’s success lies in the contrast between the pure geometry of its seat& feet, & the warm welcome afforded by its buttoned back & randomly-dis-tributed back cushions. Its low, horizontal proportions visually broaden its di-mensions & give a striking impression of lightness. Rectangular-section bril-liant-polished aluminium barrel feet in a choice of two heights. Given the ge-nerous width & depth of the seat area, please note that some creasing willbecome apparent with use: this is perfectly normal.

A light high-legged metal framebeautifully accommodates the soft, sophisticated cushions. The matt blacklacquered moulded aluminium arms are a technical triumph, a perfect foil toan attractive, functional design. Seat/back in mechano-soldered steel withelastic webbed suspension on seat, supported by a metal element which actsas both front foot and armrest, made from black lacquered moulded alumi-nium. The 2 settees have arm cushions (foam + feather) which are designedto mould themselves to the sweeping curve of the aluminium arms.

The perfect marriage of elegance & comfort, FENG offers a wealth of ref-ined detailing: note the compartmented seat cushions, the tight lines of theframe & feet, & the plump back-cushions. Range includes medium or deep1-arm settee with left/right arm, medium settee, large settee, day bed, largechaise longue with left/right arm, & 2-seat footstool. Choice of feet: ebony-stained oak-veneer or cross-shaped metal frame with 4 brilliant-chromedfeet. Removable covers. Didier Gomez recommends using one colour/fabricon the frame & back cushions, & a contrasting one to highlight the welco-ming, quilted seat.

With its timeless, cosmopolitan design, URBANI has quickly established it-self as an integral part of the Ligne Roset collection. It certainly possessesthe right attributes: generous proportions, sobriety of line, & an elegant (&ad-justable) low back. Feather-filled back cushions add a touch of refinement,whilst the brilliant-chromed steel feet bring a note of luxury. The seat depthof the ‘mobile’ settees may be varied by up to 30 cm, thus offering a choiceof two ‘relax’ positions, & the large settee may also become a day bed (W 90L 205): press back against the backrest to activate the seat.

PLURIEL’s design is confident & assured, whilst offering all the hallmarks ofclassic comfort. This model’s characteristic rounded shape lends it its own di-stinct personality. Choosefrom a low bed (sleep area 90 x 200) or a companion bed (sleep area90 x 200 or 120 x 200), both of which are finished in ribbed aluminiumlaminate or ribbed white laminate. The low bed consists of a bed framemounted on 4 lockable castors, with handles on each of the long sidesfor ease of mobility; when placed against a wall it will also serve as a daybed. The companion bed is designed along the same lines but, beinghigher than the low bed, can take either a storage drawer or an occasio-nal bed (sleep area 90 x 200) beneath it.

Since each element of the collection is complete in itself,nothing could be simpler than putting together a piece of Book &Look: all this entails is to superimpose & juxtapose the required num-ber of elements, as if playing with building blocks. Book & Look fulfilsthree functions, namely storage, multimedia (TV element) & shelving;it is offered in three finishes – gloss white lacquer, gloss black lacqueror natural walnut veneer (certain elements only); modules are offeredin units of 35 cm, in a choice of three depths – 45 (storage chest), 55(TV platform) & 28 (shelving unit).
