Locate the main BA-1 Photography area on the computer. Select all Folders and then copy them. Open your new personal folder and then Paste Items. Select all folders again and then holding down the “ctrl” click the mouse whilst hovering over one of the selected folders, a menu will open. Select “Get Info” or “Get Summary Info” item, this will open a panel for each of the selected folders. Now go to each of the panels and deselect the “Locked” button in the “General” area. If this is not done these folders will not allow anything to be added to them. ! (YOUR NAME) LR5 WORK ! Images that need work ! Pro Demo ! Workflow Project Shoots In future classes you will add new folders to this area. Setting up a personal Lightroom Catalog for use throughout this course. Open Lightroom 5 and navigate to “Preferences” in the menu, top left of Lightroom screen. Under “General” check the “Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate Photos”. Select “Go To Catalog Settings” at the bottom of the panel and select. Check the “Automatically write changes to XMP” box. All other options can be left at default. These settings will now be held in the new catalog when created. Now select “New Catalog” from the File menu found top left of the screen. A “Create Folder with New Catalog” dialog box appears. Enter “(your initials)_LR5” then under “Favorites” navigate to the “Desktop”, locate your personal folder and select it. It’s name should appear next to the folder symbol near the top of the panel. If this is correct then click on “Create”, bottom right. If you are asked if it’s OK to close and then restart Lightroom say yes. Lightroom should now restart and show a screen that tells you to “Import “ images to start working. This we will do in class. To check if you have done this correctly go to the “Finder – Desktop” and locate your personal file. Open it, it should now contain a new folder which in turn contains the new catalog and associated files that you will use from now on.

If this is what you see then all is well, if not then ask for help. At the end of each session you must copy your personal folder to your memory stick or your external hard drive, overwriting the old one. If you do not do this you will loose your work and be out of sequence with the rest of your group. At the beginning of each session you will need to copy your personal folder back on to the desktop of the computer you are working on.
