Lowline Angus 2011 Production Sale

The 10xXx Ranch or “Ten Triple X” is located in the beautiful crosstimbers area of Bosque and Somervell Counties (which is at the very top of the Texas Hill Country and 60 miles South of Ft. Worth, Texas). The ranches’ nearly 10,000 acres of rolling hills and oak groves serve as home to an abundance of wildlife, including several exotic species such as Elk, Addax, Axis, Red Stag and many others. There are numerous private lakes and spring-fed creeks that are teaming with seemingly limitless numbers of Black Bass, Hybrid Striper, Bluegill, and Catfish. There are recreational activities that range from enjoying a cold glass of lemonade on the porch of the hunting lodge, to watching wildlife in its natural habitat, to enjoying the spectacle of a 50-foot waterfall crashing into a lake, to catching huge fish from the depths of Dime, Penny, CoJo, Tuggle, Newman, and Mitchell Lakes.

The ranch is a working cattle ranch plus an outdoor paradise with over 40 lakes/ponds, over 60 miles of paved roads, over 30 miles of 8´ high fence, 10 houses for guests, two antique barns from New York (1770 Dutch Barn and 1850 English Barn), an 1835 Dog Trot Log Cabin from Ohio, a Cow Palace working cattle barn and pens, and an infinite number of scenic views and overlooks.

How’d the ranch get the name 10xXx? The name “Ten Triple X Ranch” and brand “xXx” are homage to the telecom business that allowed Joe & Connie Mitchell to purchase the ranch. The Mitchell’s company, VarTec Telecom, had invented a new method of long distance marketing called “Dial Around” or “10 Triple X” dialing. The “10 Triple X” dialing method was hugely successful. The telecom nomenclature of ”10 Triple X’ had a “ranchy” feel to it, along the lines of 40X hats, 20X Denim Jeans, Twisted X Boots, and many other Old West themes. Since Joe enjoy’s paying recognition to the “one that brought me”, he named the ranch the “Ten Triple X” or “10xXx” , with the brand of “xXx”.

Consisting of the partnership of George Jenkins & Jerry Adamson. They met in Aug. 2004. The partnership started in 2005 after George & Jerry couldn’t come to terms on price on a heifer Jerry owned. So they did the next best thing and formed a partnership to own her together. Part of the agreement, George would promote and show her. The name came about from Jerry having the Rocking J brand and George having the Diamond J brand. Jerry thought up the name and it became membership 591 in the ALR registry. You might say the rest is history, but it continues to be written every year with the new crop of lowlines brought out by the partnership.

The little heifer was out of a full blood cow Jerry had AI’d the previous year to a top MA sire, named Dr Who. He is noted nationwide for his heifers, and the little heifer of Double J’s was no exception. Aptly named Double J’s Who Am I, she wrote history when she was shown, and has continued it with her offspring.

The goal of both George and Jerry from the onset, was the burning desire by both to raise the finest lowlines in the breed. They feel they’re on the way.

Since 2006 the first National Show they attended with cattle owned by them, they’ve raised and shown more National & Reserve National Champions than any other breeder in the nation. Accumulating 16 Grand & Reserve Grand National Champions in just 6 years. The cattle being raised now and promoted they feel are improving every year. The main goal of their breeding program is to raise the prefect percentage cattle that will fit in today’s commercial industry. The cattle being promoted they feel are just that. Cows with some size, good bone, deep ribbed, sound footed, good udders, clean fronted. The bulls are built the same way, and when it comes to bulls, they’re raising the right kind. Breeders from all breeds are starting to show up every spring at the ranch and take a good hard look at what the lowline bulls they have, have to offer. Many are taking semen and young bulls home to put on their own cattle.

It’s going to be exciting the next few springs, as they get feedback from some of the top breeders in other breeds that are using their genetics. Whether it’s bulls, semen, or female breeding stock, they feel they have something to offer any program. They encourage any to give them a call, they always enjoy talking cattle.

10XXX cows + Double J Bulls = be at the ranch sale day and you decide. But we think the lowline breeder down south is going to have it made looking to purchase some of the finest breeding stock available today, all within driving distance. Why pay trucking when you’ve got the best at home. Look forward to seeing all at the ranch.

Also the kind Double J Cattle program has been built around. We were the first to add MA to our percentage program, and the results .... well lets just say the rest have been trying to catch up since 2005. I am personally building a large portion of my future cow herd with “Brick x MA” 1/2 blood heifers, and they are turning into great cows. “Everyone” that stops by to look at my calf crop, the first cows they notice and want to know what they are, are these crosses”. The next 3 heifers lots 12,13, and 14, are basically sisters with their breeding. “Talladega” out of “Proud Jazz” (SH) x MA x AN cows. Their all big bodied, bid ribbed, sound footed, clean fronted, and will be good uddered cows. They are all bred to mature into #1100 cows that will be the right type for the commercial cattleman going forward. Every issue of current cattle magazines, feature articles on how the commercial cattleman has to downsize the size of the mature cows being used in the herds today. “Input” cost on these 1400#+ cows are to high, and very few wean calves, 50% of their body weight, which is what you need to have if you want to be in the cow/calf business, stay

competitive, and make money. These heifers are the results of that type of mating. Buy’em, take’m home & breed them to any meat type producing bull, and make money selling weaned calves across the scale, or breed back to a lowline bull and downsize even further to produce 3/4’s for the small acreage farmer. (Still one of my favorite percentage bred lowlines ) Pretty simple remedy. Biggest plus, these cows will keep your “input cost” down, while still weaning a calf 50% of their body weight that the feedlot buyers will line up to get a hold of, or produce steers for grass fed operations that will do exceptional. These heifers will make great recep cows also.
