Greetings Butler County 4-H Families, Another successful Butler County Fair is in the books! I want to
thank all of you for participating and making it a success, whether
you exhibited, volunteered, or just came out to see the action.
Now that fair is past, it’s time to start thinking about what’s next.
Check out these sections in your “Clover Comments” to wrap up this
4-H year: Record Books and Project Awards.
Look for these sections to kick off your new 4-H year and get more
involved: National 4-H Week and much more.

Fair News State Fair Winners: Congratulations to all Butler County 4-Hers who are exhibiting at the
Iowa State Fair!
Your exhibits will be available for pick up from the office after the state
fair beginning August 20th. And must be picked up by August 28th.
Herdsmanship Winners: Congratulations to the following clubs/chapters who
won herdsmanship at the Butler County Fair!

impressed and thought the Youth Building looked great!

Head’s Up!
Leaders: There are two meetings coming up. Mark your Calendars!
Post Fair Leader’s Meeting: September 12th - 7:00pm @ Extension Office
Mandatory Leader’s Meeting/Training: November 7th 6-8 pm @ Extension Office
Record Book Evaluations and Recordkeeping Award nominations are due to the extension office by
September 30th. Collect record books from your members in September.
National 4-H Week is October 6-12th. Clubs are encouraged to do a community service event and
decorate windows of a local business. Share your plans with me! Watch for more events
Record Books: Record Books are due to your club leaders in September. Record keeping isn’t as hard as it sounds! Use your goal sheet/project
record from fair or use the project record sheets online. The Expected Standards and Requirements for Recordkeeping document
tells you what you need to have in your books. All documents and forms can be found on our website: https://
www.extension.iastate.edu/butler/content/record-book-information
Project Awards! You can’t get an award if you don’t apply! If you have completed 5th-12th grade (2018-2019 school year), you can apply for a pro-
ject award. To apply, a member must have been enrolled in a project area for at least 2 years, answer 3 questions, and provide
supporting materials like your record book. A committee will evaluate your goals to see that you have shown growth through 4-H.

Award applications are due to the office by September 30!
Members can win an award in any project area once as a Junior, once as an Intermediate and once as a Senior. Do you think
you could win a project award in each age division?
National 4-H Week is October 6-12th this year!! This is a week to celebrate 4-H! Let’s showcase the great things that 4-H offers young people and highlight the incredible 4-H
youth in Butler County who work each day to make a positive impact on the community. Clubs are encouraged to do a communi-
ty service event during this week and decorate a window of a local business. Share your plans with me and then post them and
pictures on our Facebook page! Watch upcoming emails and newsletters for 4-H Week events!
Trophy Winners: Remember to write a thank you to the sponsor of any trophy you won at fair! They love to hear from you! Swine Show Exhibitors: Please take time to write a thank you to the trucker for delivering pigs for free to Hormel.

Opportunities
Nominate Deserving Adults or Businesses for 4-H Awards!
Three special awards are given each year at the Awards Program to honor the dedication and support of adults/
businesses in Butler County. If you know someone dedicated to Butler County 4-H, nominate them for: Alumni
Award (former 4-H’er giving back); Honorary 4-H Member (someone who wasn’t a
4-H’er but got involved); Meritorious Service Award (person/business that has helped 4-H by providing special
services or going out of their way to support 4-H) DUE: September 30th

Join FIRST® LEGO® League!
The Lego Wizard club is looking for new members age 9-14 who are interested in science, like to compete,
and like to play around with robots. They are even looking for parents to become a new coach! Contact
Tayler at the extension office if you are interested. The FLL® season begins in August, so hurry and sign up!
Also any adults interested in helping out with this club please contact Tayler.
Join the Cooking Club:
Do you enjoy cooking? Or want to learn how to cook? This is the perfect club for
you! The cooking club is looking for members who are in grades 4th-12th. The
club will meet monthly and Michelle Johnson who is a local club leader and
teacher will be the leader. If you are interested in joining this club and would like more information please
contact Tayler. Hope you consider this club and the number of skills you will learn from being a part of it.
Clover Patch Club The Clover Patch 4-H Club is ready to begin another exciting year and we hope YOU will come along and join us this year! The Clover Patch Club is for any youth in Butler County in grades K - 3rd grade.
