How does bone regenerate?Human bone possesses the ability to regenerate itself, re-growing lost bone. In most cases however, not enough natural bone will form. For this reason dentists use products that help grow enough bone.

Dental bone regeneration therapy is what dentists do to restore the bone in your mouth. The therapy generally involves using 2 products to help form bone:

Geistlich Bio-Oss® is a bone-like material that acts as a scaffold for new bone to grow on and into. The structure of Geistlich Bio-Oss® is very similar to human bone, which makes the material very well accepted by the body and highly effective in supporting the body’s own regenerative processes.

Geistlich Bio-Gide® is a protective cover that is placed over the Geistlich Bio-Oss®. It acts as a barrier to prevent rapidly growing soft-tissue (gum) from invading the space where the new, slower growing, bone will form. In addition, Geistlich Bio-Gide® promotes good wound healing.

The bone regeneration process typically takes about 4-6 months until healthy and new bone is formed.

Strong bone for a healthier smile. Strong, healthy teeth enhance your well-being, boost your self-confidence and elevate your personal appeal, both professionally and privately.

A sufficient amount of bone is essential to ensure the long-term stability of your teeth or dental implants. However, many people suffer from bone loss and your dentist believes you could benefit from dental bone regeneration therapy.

Bone regeneration therapy around teeth or in conjunction with implant placement, helps regenerate your bone and improves the function and appearance of your teeth.

Why are you suffering bone loss? The most common reason for bone loss is chronic infection of the gum. The infection is often present for months or even years and because most chronic gum infections are painless, they are easily ignored, even when bleeding, tartar and bad breath are present.

Bone loss can also occur if the socket (hole) after tooth extraction is not treated properly or if trauma occurs.

An overview of our quality products

Geistlich Bio-Oss® – the scaffold for new bone formation• Natural material that enables your body to regenerate new bone • Made from the mineral part of the bones originating from Australian cattle• Australian sourced and Swiss made proven quality • Successfully used for over 30 years

Geistlich Bio-Gide® – the protective barrier• Protects the bone graft material while new bone is regenerated and supports wound healing • Made from collagen sourced from Swiss pig • Swiss made proven quality• Successfully used for over 20 years

What happens after treatment? The Geistlich Bio-Oss® material integrates very well into the new bone. In fact, over the years it is slowly converted into your own bone.

Geistlich Bio-Oss® behaves like bone, and is designed to provide long-term stability, ensuring your teeth or implants remain securely embedded in bone.

Geistlich Bio-Gide® protects the bone material as long as needed and afterwards is completely broken down into the body.

What are the alternatives to Geistlich Bio-Oss®?One alternative is to use the body’s own bone. This is usually taken from the chin or hip. However, this procedure means having a second surgery and that means more risk of infection or complications.

Compared to other off-the-shelf products, Geistlich Bio-Oss® together with Geistlich Bio-Gide® are the best documented materials in the world for bone regeneration.

A large defect due to missing bone. Missing bone leads to a collapse of the unsupported soft tissue. This can destabalise teeth and be aesthetically displeasing.

To treat, the defect is filled with bone material (Geistlich Bio-Oss®) and protective cover (Geistlich Bio-Gide®) is applied.

Regeneration of own bone occurs when the bone material is completely integrated into the bone.

Regenerated bone ensures the long-term stability of teeth or dental implants.
