From the Leadership Team

Dear Families,

This weekend brings the start of the preparation for Christmas, with the first Sunday of Advent. The word ‘Advent’ comes from the Latin word ‘Adventus’ which means ‘coming’. In many homes, we are busy preparing for Christmas, thinking about gifts and celebrations. Advent is a time to prepare spiritually for the annual celebration of the event of Christ’s birth. We will gather as a school for an Advent Liturgy on Thursday Dec 1st at 11.00, in the church. Families are welcome to join us.

It is our Annual Book Fair next week. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase books through the school. Ms Helen and her wonderful helpers are kept very busy during the week with the Library open for viewing and book sales throughout the week. Classes will have the opportunity to view the books and families are most welcome to come and purchase items. We encourage you to support this event.

Over the past few weeks, many Year 5 students have been preparing for their Leadership speeches. These speeches will be presented to Year 3-6 students on Thursday and Friday afternoons this week from 2pm. Next week, the voting process will be conducted by the Electoral Commission and school leaders will be announced in Week 10. While there is a process for electing the SRC and Sports Captains for 2017, all of the students in Year 6 are considered leaders in our school community.

Tomorrow we will welcome many of the Transition students for 2017 who will attend an Orientation morning in our school. There will be another morning next Tuesday, and the Parent Information evening will be held on Tuesday evening at 6pm.

We are asking for donations of non-perishable items for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal and items for the P and F Christmas raffle. Please send these to the Office.

A reminder that the Palmerston Christmas Carols are being held this Saturday evening at 6pm and a group of students from our school will be performing.

Have a wonderful week.

Enrolling Now for 2017

As we are now in the cyclone season in the Top End, families are reminded of our school procedures in the event of a cyclone. School closures are announced by the Department of Education and are broadcast to the public on the local TV and radio stations. In the event that government schools are closed, Catholic schools will also be closed. Please listen to the radio or TV for updates in relation to school closures and re-opening. We will endeavour to keep families informed via our school website and social media but this will be dependent on the availability of power and personnel.
