Coming Events Dear Families,

Last Friday we held our Sports Day and had a wonderful day. It was fantastic to see so many families in attendance and assisting with the activities. We are very proud of our students and the way in which they participated and supported one another throughout the day. At the end of the events, a few dance songs were played and it was great to see the students all mingling together and enjoying the activities. We were also fortunate to have the Minister for Sport, Mr Nathan Barrett, on hand to present the shield to the winning team, Hurley. This is the first year that we have used the new sporting names and the children adapted many of their songs to incorporate these new names. We thank the P and F for their organisation of the BBQ and ice cups and thank all families for their support on the day. Events such as these reinforce the wonderful community that we are creating at Sacred Heart.

The next P and F fundraiser is the Family Portraits on Sunday May 22nd. Information about this has been sent home to each family and we encourage you to take this opportunity for a family photo and support this fundraiser.

We have noticed a number of late arrivals to school each day. While we understand that some days there are circumstances that mean a late arrival, consistently arriving late to school has an impact on social and academic development. Children arriving late not only miss valuable information, but also miss the social aspects of the start of the school day. School begins at 8.30am and any children arriving after this time need to go to the Office to be signed in. Arriving 10 minutes late every day equates to around 6 days a year missed and arriving 30 minutes late every day equates to almost 20 days a year missed.

This week our Year 3 and 5 students have participated in NAPLAN tests. As mentioned previously, results of these tests are not received until late in Term 3.

We have hosted a Work Experience student this week, Isabella Fricker, who has spent time in a range of classes. We thank Isabella for choosing our school to gain some insights into teaching and wish her well for her future.

Next week the Year 5 classes will go on Camp to Riyala, at Noonamah. This is a very exciting opportunity for these students and their teachers. The classes will be supported by some parent volunteers and we wish them all an enjoyable camp.

Miss Geraldine Ballesteros will attend the Pastoral Care and Wellbeing day next week run by the Catholic Education Office. In preparation for this day, some classes have been given an activity to complete as a family and return to school. Could you please have these returned by Tuesday May 17th.

We wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
