Mass Readings

May the Lord bless in the covenant of marriage for Morgan Meier and Austin Weyers, Saturday, July 11th.

US bishops Prayer for Sacramental Marriage God our Father, we give you thanks for the gift of marriage: the bond of life and love, and the font of the family. The love of husband and wife enriches your Church with children, fills the world with a multitude of spiritual fruitfulness and service, and is the sign of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ, for his Church. The grace of Jesus flowed forth at Cana at the request of the Blessed Mother. May your Son, through the intercession of Mary, pour out upon us a new measure of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as we join with all people of good will to promote and protect the unique beauty of marriage. May your Holy Spirit enlighten our society to treasure the heroic love of husband and wife, and guide our leaders to sustain and protect the singular place of mothers and fathers in the lives of their children. Father, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of the Virgin Mary, that your Word may transform our service so as to safeguard the incomparable splendor of marriage. Through Christ our Lord, Amen. Saints Joachim and Anne, parents of Mary, pray for us.

In last Saturday and early Sundays sermons, Fr. Ron talked of two Hebrew terms: Shalom (peace) and Shekinah (God’s presence). As expressed in the First Commandment, God is first, and guides the People; most dramatically in the Presence of the pillar of fire guiding Moses and the people during 40 years in the desert (Exodus 40:38). Our human faithfulness follows, and then peace is the fruit. In our pride, we think we are owed peace, regardless of our fidelity to God.

Church in Africa Collection next weekend, July 18/19th. With your help the Church in Africa can continue to play an active role in the evangelization of the world and care for the spiritual needs of African people. Please give generously.

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha lived in central NY state and Montreal QC (1656-1680). She is a patron saint of the environment, ecolo-gy, people who care for nature, people in exile, people who are grieving the death of parents, and Native American people. On her Tuesday feast day this week, let us join in this prayer written by one of the Mohawk Nation: Dear Cousin Kateri Tekakwitha,

Flower of the Algonquins and Lily of the Mohawks: The Great Spirit, our Creator, chose you among all the Native Americans to be His messenger of love and service to His people. You were subjected to all sorts of ridicule - being called "the Christian", "the Algonquin" - by your people, the Mohawks. Yet you persevered in your undying love of Jesus and Mary above all else. Lead us to this perfection of love and sacrifice as you did in an environment much like today's world of self-centeredness, greed and the idolatry of the material. You lived Jesus' message of "Love God with your whole heart and your whole soul, and love your neighbor as yourself". Please be our guide towards a saintly life of love and dedication to others. When we are about to give up our spirit, please help us to cross over into that happy hunting ground to share our Creator's reward that you now cherish with Jesus, Mary and our Great Spirit. Cousin Tekakwitha, please watch over, protect and guide us as we attempt to walk in your moccasins. Amen.

Fairtrade Coffee Sales after Masses this weekend. The small coffee farmers have suffered a rust on their crops and need our help. By purchasing coffee and teas you help them sustain their coffee farms, feed their families and send their children to school. It also helps CDA save money from these sales to fund orphanages, water pro-jects and other third world projects.

The Supreme Court has tragically declared that states must issue marriage licenses to two persons of the same sex and recognize

same sex “marriages” that were contracted in another state.

This broad, adverse ruling redefines marriage in the law throughout the entire country, changing thousands of laws regarding mar-riage, family and children and threatening religious freedom in numerous ways. “Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable.” -

Archbishop Kurtz, President of the USCCB

*PRAY, FAST, SACRIFICE

The Bishops have encouraged Catholics to participate in a Call to Prayer for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty. Visit

www.usccb.org/pray to learn more and commit to praying and fasting for life, marriage, and religious liberty.

*ADVOCATE FOR MARRIAGE

Don’t be afraid to talk about it.

Be a witness for the truth of marriage. Take advantage of opportunities to speak about it kindly with family, friends, neighbors or co-workers. Be prepared for false charges of discrimination and to respond with the following truths in charity. (It is not discrimination to

recognize different people are equal in dignity, but have different paths of discipleship to God).

What is marriage?

Marriage is the permanent and exclusive union of one man and one woman, for the good of the spouses and for the

procreation and education of children. One man, one woman, for life.

The difference is the difference.

Men and women are equal and different. Sexual difference is essential to marriage and raising children. Ignoring or

removing “the difference is… the problem, not the solution” (Pope Francis).

Mothers and fathers matter.

They aren’t interchangeable. While single parents and others raising children often make heroic sacrifices and deserve support, society should also affirm every child’s basic, natural right to come from and be raised in the loving marital union of his or her own

father and mother.

Support religious freedom

The First Amendment Defense Act is one way that Congress is seeking to protect religious believers from being coerced to accept, condone, or participate in same-sex “marriage.” The Child Welfare Provide Inclusion Act is another important piece of legislation. Please let your representatives know that you support this legislation through our action center, and keep informed of other such

measures.
