LFRW Elephantimes - President's Message - May 31, 2019

May 31, 2019Issue 31

It is such a pleasure to write to you as the newly elected President of the LFRW!I am excited about my new office in the LFRW and look forward to getting to know each one of you and working with you to make the LFRW even greater than it has been in the past.

Let me know what we can do to help you and your club in educating, inspiring, and involving your membership. We are at a crossroads at such an important time in the history of the United States of America and Louisiana.

This year we have an election for governor and for a large portion of our legislators in Louisiana. We have to work together to make sure that we keep our conservative advantage and put a Republican in the Governor’s Mansion, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Likewise, our President, Donald J. Trump, is up for re-election. With all the radical candidates with extreme ideas, this is probably the most important fight we have had in our history. Sometimes I wonder if this IS really the United States of America. We have to do our best to see our country remains the land of the free and the home of the brave. Now more than ever we need your help.

Today on Memorial Day, we honor those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our country and our way of life. As we enter the summer, with children at home, family vacations, and time to relax, thank you for your contributions to the LFRW! We couldn’t do it without you! Don’t forget we have elections coming in the fall. Let’s hit the ground running! GO ACTIVE!

All of the best,

Wanda AizpuruaLFRW President

Peter Schneller, 12th grader at Brother Martin High School was one of the $1000 college scholarship winners awarded by the Republican Women’s Club of Jefferson Parish. He did so by coming in first in an essay writing contest in which he addressed the exigent need for Building The Wall.

He’s a self-starter, writes really well, and in my opinion gave a great presentation at the RWCJP May 16, 2019 meeting at Andrea's

Unable to attend was our other $1000 scholarship recipient Catherine Carpenter senior from Dominican High School

The Republican Women’s Club of Jefferson Parish was among organizations recognized at Marie Riviere Elementary School recently during the Dawn Busters Kiwanis Rewards for Reading program. RWC donated patriotic books to the school in the Fall and is currently participating in its Riviere Readers program. Riviere Readers builds personal libraries for the more than 600 students at the school. Pictured, far left, is the founder of the program, Lauren Landry, along with Faith Peperone, RWC Vice President, and Beverly Murphy, Literacy Chair.

Some of the issues included attempts by the Democrats to circumvent the electoral college; House Resolution 1, For the People Act, which would change voter registration rules and some voting procedures; election security; voting machine replacement and new machines for early voting in the fall; and reduction of the number of elections by making temporary appointments instead of electing person to complete partial terms.
