THE WEATHER CUBE

The weather cube is a sophisticated and unique

weather station.

The cube relies heavily on communication as

you physically have to move the cube to view

the different information. This forms a rare and

personal relationship between product and user

Page 3: Louis Block Portfolio

GRAPHICSThe graphical communication was important and had to

rely on very simple visuals due to the lack of control.

The screen on the cube is able to display each of these

graphics below depending on the current weather in the

area. The visual on the left shows the different parameters

and how they are displayed on the cube with the screen

darkening the later the time becomes.

The Morphy Richards AirFlow challenges conventional vacuums cleaning products. The average family of four in the UK will shed well over half a billion skin particles every 7 days, this being the average amount of days people leave before vacuuming.

The AirFlow recognises this gross statistic and works to filter the air constantly, preventing dust build up, reducing the need to vacuum so often as well as keeping the air around you fresh and clean.

The AirFlow has very simple and effective function. The unfiltered air is brought though the holes that surround the base they are filtered through a HEPA filtration system that collects the dust and allows clean air to pass through.

The top can be removed, this allows the user easy access to the filter, due to the simple structure, it is very easy to replace parts or upgrade them.

DDesigning for one of the most prestigious british institutes requires a extreme

eye to detail and build quality. This piece, which closely resembles Corin

Mellors’ black handle range, embodies this attention to build quality.

The Karrimor project concentrated on how Karrimor could develop their line of products to suit customers who desired higher performance for more extreme sports. The initial response was to look at a sport they had not focused on but one with a large customer base in the UK.

The Karrimor Hard shell back pack not only protects the user form sudden impacts but stores all the vital equipment needed for a search and rescue in the unfortunate event on an avalanche. Simple to use the equipment is easily accessible and easy to used even under high stress situations

Hallam Climbing

Re Branding -Hallam Climbing is a hugely popular society within Sheffield Hallam University. With over one hundred members, for years the the branding of Hallam Climbing has not been taken serious. With the new academic year starting and Hallam Climbing being recognised as a “Sport society” by the university, it was time the brand actually meant something.

Three areas that needed to be addressed were the advertisement, logo and uniform. I wanted the Hallam Climbing brand to be recognisable from a distance, this developed into the pink and maroon sharp rock like pattern, this helped contrast when the name was placed on top. The tops had to feel special. I felt they had to look professional but something that would look good to casually wear this fitting in with the societies social aspect.
