Despite the loss last night, the Dodgers have a chance to complete a winning road trip and split the series with the first-place Cubbies. The Dodgers remain 4.5 games back of the Giants in the National League West and today hope to win for the eighth time in 11 games. Following this afternoon’s contest, the Dodgers fly back to Los Angeles and begin a six-game homestand tomorrow that features three games apiece against the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers are 8-4 in day games and 12-5 in the final game of a series this season. Overall, the Dodgers’ series record is 9-5-3. Los Angeles has won 10 of its last 15 games at Wrigley Field and its .667 winning percentage at Chicago tops NL clubs since 2013. MEN IN THE PEN: The Dodger bullpen tossed 3.0 scoreless innings last night and has now yielded just six runs in its last 42.2 innings of work (1.27 ERA) since May 21. The group has also tossed 10.1 consecutive scoreless innings over their last four games and the Dodgers’ 3.32 bullpen ERA ranks fourth in the National League while its .197 opponentsaverage is best in the league. Kenley Jansen is tied for sixth in the Majors with 15 saves, allowing three runs in 21 appearances (1.35 ERA, 3 ER/20.0 IP) and limiting hitters to a .149 batting average (10-for-67) with 21 strikeouts against only one walk. With 157 career saves, Jansen is just four saves shy of Eric Gagné’s club record. GET WELL SOON: Yesterday, the Dodgers announced that left- hander pitcher Alex Wood has a posterior impingement in his left elbow and will need approximately four weeks of rest before he resumes throwing. Wood is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 10 starts this season. He is making his first trip to the disabled list in his four big league seasons. YOU ARE OUTTA HERE: By defensive efficiency, which measures turning balls in play into outs, the Dodgers are the second-best NL team, trailing only the Cubs, with a 72.6% efficiency rating, according to Baseball-Reference.com. According to ESPN researcher Mark Simon, if it’s hit on the ground, the Dodgers and Cubs are vacuuming it up. Prior to Tuesday night’s game, Chicago (78.4) and Los Angeles (76.6) ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in percentage of grounders and bunts turned into outs. The Dodgers have used 271 defensive shifts this year, the fifth-fewest among NL teams according to FanGraphs. TEENAGE RAMPAGE: Dodger starter Julio Urias, 19, is set to make his second big league outing today after being recalled Tuesday when Alex Wood was sent to the disabled list. Urias made his big league debut last Friday in New York, allowing three runs in 2.2 innings in a no-decision against the Mets. The left-hander walked four and struck out three while giving up five hits. There will be one noticeable difference for Urias, as he will be wearing No. 7 instead of the No. 78 he donned last week in New York. Urias was 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA (5 ER/41.0 IP) in eight games (seven starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City and was in the midst of a 27.0-inning scoreless streak. He had 44 strikeouts against just eight walks and tossed 5.0 scoreless innings in his last outing a week ago vs. Salt Lake City. Dodger starters rank among the National League leaders in ERA (3.42, 4 th ), opponents’ batting average (.219, 2 nd ) and strikeouts (335, 2 nd ). The Dodgers’ seven shutouts this season are tied with the Phillies for the most in Major League Baseball. THE NAME OF THE GAME: Dodger infielder Chase Utley has 31 runs scored on the season, two shy of the Dodger leader, Corey Seager. Utley (994) and outfielder Carl Crawford (998) are both closing in on scoring their 1,000 th career run, a feat that has been accomplished by just 323 Major Leaguers. Somewhat surprisingly, very few players have worn the Dodger uniform when scoring No. 1,000, with the last being Devon White on May 5, 1999. Dodger first baseman Adrián González had the night off yesterday, but his 17 multi-hit games are still tied for eighth in the National League and his .291 career-average at Wrigley Field in 36 games matches his overall career batting average. González has scored 918 runs in his career and is also five home runs shy of 300.
