Jim Oulton, Partner, Mayer Brown Jim is a Partner in Mayer Brown Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice, working primarily in the professional liability and professional indemnity insurance fields. He chairs the Finance Committee of Mayer Brown in London and is a member of the London Litigation Group’s Steering Committee. He is a mentor on the 30% Club’s Cross Company Mentoring Scheme aimed at making a step change in the number of women attaining senior leadership roles. Julie Bentley, Chief Executive, Girlguiding UK Julie has been CEO of Girlguiding since November 2012. Julie has dedicated her career to working in the not for profit sector, beginning in the early 1990’s as a youth worker in Essex where she also ran a drop in-service for unemployed young people. Julie has held senior leadership positions in the not for profit sector for twenty years. In 2014 she was named number five on the Radio 4 Woman’s Hour Power list of Game Changers in the UK. In the same year she was voted Britain’s Most Admired Charity Chief Executive at the “Third Sector Awards”. Professor Averil Macdonald OBE DSc,D.Univ, CPhys FInstP FRSA Averil Macdonald is Emeritus Professor of Science Engagement (University of Reading) and leads on diversity for SEPnet, the South East Physics Network of nine physics departments. She was awarded the international Bragg Medal and Prize (1999) by the Institute of Physics, London, the accolade of Woman of Outstanding Achievement in Science (2007), the prestigious Plastics Industry Award for Personal Contribution to the Industry (2007), Honorary Doctorates by the University of York (2010) and Kingston University (2015), the Starting Out award from BEIS (2016) and an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list (2015) for services to women in science and engaging the public with science. At European level Averil chaired Forum for Physics in Society in the European Physical Society and sits on the EU Helsinki Group for Gender in Research advising the EU Commission on gender issues. Barbara Harvey, Managing Director, Accenture Research With over 25 years of experience in research, spanning quantitative techniques and statistical methods, Barbara joined Accenture in 1997 to establish an advanced research capability. Barbara ran the Accenture corporate functions Accent on Women initiative and is the sponsor for the award-winning Accenture’s Mental Health programme in the UK. She is leading research into gender equality and is a coach on Accenture’s Leadership Development Programme. Lisa Unwin, Founder, She’s Back Lisa is the founder of She’s Back. Prior to taking a career break, Lisa had a 20 year career in professional services. Lisa founded She’s Back in 2014, in response to the lack of clear opportunities for women to return to professional life after taking a career break. Research undertaken in 2015 by She’s Back, the University of Edinburgh Business School and sponsors from five different sectors, highlighted the scale of untapped potential in this particular talent pool. She’s Back works with organisations to help them understand how to retain more women at all levels and how to re-engage with those who take a break. A recent PwC report identified a talent pool of 550,000 women who have had a career break and have professional and managerial experience, of which three quarters are seeking to come back into the workforce. Building a gender diverse pipeline is both a key business challenge and imperative. Despite a huge amount of effort, overall little progress has been made.
