Track and Field

Wow! I cannot believe it is already close to track and field season! Practices will begin immediately after the March break as we have a fantastic meet (V.O.C. Meet) shortly after we return (information about the meet will be handed out prior to the holiday as entries need to be in by the end of the first week of April). Track is open to everyone from grade 3 to 7. Senior practices (grade 6 and 7) will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 am and will begin Monday, April 1st (no joke). Junior practices (grade 3, 4 and 5) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 am and will begin on April 2nd. High jump practices (grade 4 to 7) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch in the gym and the first practice will be on April 2nd. On Fridays there will be an additional practice at Balaclava Park at 8 am for hurdles, discus as well as a number of other track and field events.

Permission forms will be distributed as soon as the Zone 1 track and field meet dates are set. Please contact me (Ms. Wilson-Haffenden) if you have any questions or if you would like to help at one or more of practices. Ashley Horlock can also be contacted for additional information.

Thank you to Ashley Horlock and Patty Yeterian who have both already offered to help with practices.

Swim Team

It has been an absolute pleasure working with the second ever Lord Kitchener Swim Team. Every member of the team should be very proud of her or his progress. I certainly have been amazed with the improvement in the swimming skills by every member of the team. Our last practice was on February 21st but many members of the team have decided to continue their training with PSA. I am super excited to hear this news. Best wishes with your continued training.

Once again thank you to the many parents, Anna and Cam Nelson, Natalie Walshaw, Albert Ho and Courtney Tang, who assisted with paperwork and coordinating team member entries as well as helping at our local three meets. Huge thank you to the coaching expertise of Phil and Jennifer from PSA.

It was a wonderful swim season and hopefully the team will continue to develop and increase in size next year.

Basketball

It has been an incredibly exciting and fun basketball season. The teams have played five weeks of VSB league games against Zone 1 teams and many more weeks of practices. The senior teams have just begun their competitive single elimination tournament and I am sure that both teams will do tremendously well.

The players have demonstrated terrific growth in their skills and game knowledge. They have worked hard in their practices and have been enthusiastic and cheerful. All four teams have also shown very good sportsmanship and cooperation even in some challenging and close game situations.

A huge thank you to the parents and Ms. Schouten who have assisted with coaching. It has been great having your help and expertise.

Competitive Badminton Team

Lord Kitchener will once again be participating in the inter school competitive badminton league and tournament. This will be our fourth year participating and it has been an amazing amount of fun and the Lord Kitchener athletes have demonstrated some amazing badminton skills. The team is open to grade 6 and 7 students but any students in grade 5 who are really interested should speak to me (Ms. Wilson-Haffenden). We will begin practices after the March break and we will hold one or two weekly lunch hour practices (most likely Monday and Wednesday). Games will be after school on Thursdays throughout April and the final tournament will be at the end of April or beginning of May (depends on which pool of teams we are with as to the exact day and time).

Unfortunately we will only limited number of player entries but if you are interested please speak to me and I will do my best to include everyone interested.
