The past few days, I have been researching more into the originalvideo of Two Door Cinema Club’s ‘What You now’ video! "lthough Iam not usually drawn to this type of music genre, Two Door are agreat, successful band, and after hearing the song continuous timesover the past few wee#s due to creating the storyboard etc!, it was

time to step it up and research what I am potentially trying torecreate!I $rstly started o% by watching the video again on YouTube, and Iwas blown away by how many views both the song and video had!

The video is very di%erent and uni&ue, or at least I thought it was!"fter having a lesson with my teachers about how no music video isoriginal' all ideas came from or were inspired from somewhere, Iwas ama(ed! This meant the video I was attempting to recreateslightly di%erently, their idea had come from elsewhere! This wasvery interesting to hear that all video directors are inspired fromother elements of the media such as adverts, other music videosand $lms etc! "fter $nding out this valuable information, I decided tota#e my research further!

Within the information bo) of the music video published on YouTube,it tells viewers information on when the single was released, whatalbum it came from, and who directed the video! "s you can seefrom the above image, the video was directed by *ope +errano whowor#s for a production company called ‘C""D"’! The company isbased in -arcelona, +pain, and has been producing and directingmusic videos and

commercialssince .//0! I began tothin# that wor#ing withsuch a popular bandmust have been such a privilidge and achievement!

I decided to search ‘*ope +errano’ into their website, and I managedto come across a variety of commercials and videos he had eitherdirected or co1directed!

I watched a couple of his creative videos, including the music video‘-rillar’ which was very interesting, a commercial called ‘Inimitables’and also the music video for ‘Invisible *ight’ by the +cissor +isters!"ll of these videos have di%erent ideas to them, which were veryintriguing and very creative! +o far, *ope’s wor# has drawn me inand wanting to #now more about the director!

"fter researching into his previous wor#, I decided to ta#e it to thene)t step! "fter $nding information about the company, although itwas a bit of a long shot, I decided to try and get through to *ope+errano using email! 2nfortunately, I was unable to $nd his email onthe website, so I emailed to e)ecutive producer of the company,

3scar 4omagosa! If I was going to get through to anybody, it wasgoing to be him!

I emailed 3scar in order to try and get through to *ope! I told him

my name, what my intentions were and if it was possible to be

directed to him! I also sent him the lin# to my music video to thesong, and see if he would give me feedbac# on it!

"ma(ingly, I received a response! 3scar had #indly forwarded myemail to *ope himself so he had it directly! This was his response5

I was so overwhelmed by this! +omeone who had created aprofessional, creative and famous video had agreed to help me with

some answers to his idea behind the video! 6e politely as#ed if I 7ustwanted a brief overview or speci$c &uestions! 3f course, I had comeup with speci$c &uestions in order to get as much detail as I possiblycould for my research!

I sent *ope a lengthy response bac# with the &uestions I would haveli#ed him to have answered! I mainly as#ed about his ideas behindthe video, as that was my main intention, however I also as#edabout how he got into his 7ob and if he ever has e)perienced withany other music genre other than indie8electronic8pop 9as I had seen

he had directed on C""D"’s website! *ater that evening, I had myresponse!

I could not believe my luc#! *ope had responded to my email withmore detail than I could imagine! In the email, he e)plained eachdocument he had sent me! I feel fully privileged to havecommunicated with such a uni&ue and creative director, who too#the time out of his busy schedule 9I can only imagine: to spea# to astudent! The folder, called ‘TDCC for ;olly’ contained informationonly a media student doing there a levels could only wish for! The$rst document contained the treatment and pitch they had createdfor the image of the trac#, a great piece to not only help me with mycoursewor#, but for also my teachers to loo# at and potentially usewith their future classes to e)plain the process of a music video! The

second document, once the 7ob was given a green light, was a moredetailed idea of his art directionand dance cast within the video! e)t was a video of the song and avideo with it, the idea for his video laid out with wooden $gures! 6ementioned to me that this is not usually the way the usually do this, however due to the video needing a lot of camera angles' it was themost e%ective way! *astly contained a folder of inspirationreferences he had used to illustrate his ideas!

To sum up, my research into the music video was successful! I feelvery privileged and grateful to have been in contact with *ope todiscuss his ideas and view on his video! It has helped me e)pand myresearch e%ectively and I cannot than# him enough for allowing meto see this and share it onto my blog! I aim to loo# through hisvideos and use some to support my own wor#!
