Musashi is affiliated with the Dutch ShinKyokushin Organization (NSKO), which in turn is affiliated with the World Kyokushin Organization. The Dojo also has a few karatekas who are members of the Dutch National team, or were previously members, and some who compete in Dutch, European, and World Championships. STRONGER TOGETHER The karate club was having issues with their punching bags splitting open after the many blows it took from their members. The zipper would pop off of the bag followed by the teeth and the bag would open up with the insides spilling out. To fix this, Euro Manchetten came up with a new design for the bags. Instead of zippers, we use a stitching and welding tech- nique to seal the bag closed. Polyester fiber woven together with a PVC coating provides extra strength. Every punch or kick would push the air out of the bag, or distort the zipper. Euro Manchetten technologies will create more durable equipment for the dojo to use, and limit the waste that must be thrown away. We are also experimenting with different ways to hang the punching bag in other environ- ments. We have not started this project yet, but we hope to design a bag that can easily be hung to a tree for outdoor training so that karatekas can independently train not only inside the dojo, but in their outdoor facilities, as well. The hanging belts allow karatekas to practice without the need of another training partner. The idea to get rid of the zipper and develop new training gear was taken very enthusiasti- cally by staff members and karatekas. The efficiency of our products will allow the dojo to save money over time, which in turn allows for more investment in their members. Musashi is a traditional gym that originated from years of experience, training and courses in karate. Located in Raamsdonksveer in North Brabant, the Dojo practices kyokushinkai- a stand-up, full contact fighting style. Rooted in a philosophy of tough training, discipline, and self improvement, this style has been around for almost 60 years. With kyokushinkai, one “learns to control them- selves, resulting in more self-confidence and more sense of responsibility.” Overall, the type of karate supported at Musashi contributes to positive deve- lopments in life, school, and work.
