DISOBEDIENCE The Sousa Mendes Story

Kentucky Theater 214 E. Main St., Lexington Monday, April 24, 7:30 PM

The film called "Disobedience" is a true story about the devout Roman Catholic Portuguese diplomat, Aristedes de Sousa Mendes, who issued 30,000 travel visas in the matter of a few days that helped 30,000 Jews and others escape the Holocaust during World War II, 1940. Prime Minister Salazar stripped Sousa Mendes of every-thing for issuing those visas. In 1954 Mendes died in abject poverty at a Franciscan Hospital and was buried in a Franciscan habit for lack of appropriate clothing of his own.

The suggested donation, $10.00, will go to the Sousa Mendes Foundation(sousamendesfoundation.org).

This film showing is co-sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Lexington and the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass (Michael Rie - [email protected])

THE SERVICE COMMITTEE

SENIOR LUNCHEON

The Senior Luncheon is on Friday, April 28th at 12:00 Noon

at the High Mountain Steakhouse (113 East Lexington Street).

Hope you can join us!!!!

COMMITTEE IS CHANGING ITS NAME!

The Peer Ministry Committee will be called the Social Event Committee in the future.

This committee was established in the mid-nineties as a committee that coordinated events for all age groups in the parish, from various grades of youth groups, to "Over-Fifties." However, over time, each peer group has evolved into it's own committee or group and is no longer coordinated by peer ministry. During the past several years peer ministry has mostly coordinated family events or adult only events, such as the pot lucks, the progressive dinner, the pool party, the parish picnic, the Halloween Party, and the latest new event, a coats and cocktail charity event. Therefore a name change, which more correctly reflects the function of the committee seemed to be needed.

If you have ideas for our committee or would be interested in being part of our committee, please contact any of the members. They are Tony and Julie Patterson, Pat Grant, Joan Huffman, Barbara Chiericozzi, Dawn Braasch, and Mary Kay Mayo.

PROGRESSIVE DINNER July 22

The Social Event Committee is making plans for this year's Progressive Dinner on July 22nd. Please consider providing your house to host either the appetizer or dessert course for the evening. Besides the house, you would be asked to provide non-alcoholic drinks, and disposable tableware (plates, napkins, cups, cutlery) - no food! We average about 40-50 attendees. Adults only.

Contact any of the committee members if you have questions or would like to provide your house - Tony and Julie Patterson, Joan Huffman, Pat Grant, Barbara Chiericozzi, Dawn Braasch, Mary Kay Mayo.

Rejoice! The Savior is risen! Alleluia!

A blessed Mercy Sunday to all! On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you a most Blessed Easter! As we celebrate these eight weeks of Easter, ending with Pentecost Sunday on June 4, may we each enter more deeply into the mystery of our Lord’s Resurrection.

What a beautiful and memorable time we shared during Holy Week and Easter Sunday! Thank you to all who prepared our liturgical environment inside and out, to all who assisted at every Mass, to the choir for their lovely music, and to those who prepared the candidates and the catechumens for reception of the sacraments.

Praised be Jesus Christ! Now and Forever. Alleluia!

Father Al

Anyone who is interested in helping others as they go through loss and

grief please call Pat Logsdon (859-748-6166).

We can train you if you think it will help you deal with others in their grief process. Meeting times are flexible. There are many good resources in Boyle and Mercer counties. We can use those resources and we can be a resource for others.
