Wounded Warrior & Family February 2011 Ranch Retreat Summary
LSF hosted a wounded warrior ranch retreat from 8-10 Feb at Barefoot Ranch. We had 3 families attend although 4 were scheduled. One cancelled the day of the retreat because they were snowed in at their house and couldn’t get to the airport. Quote from Brittney, the wife of a severely injured wounded warrior who attended our Wounded Warrior Retreat this week at Barefoot Ranch: “Lone Survivor Foundation is amazing and the wellness retreat far exceeded our expectations. These are some of the most amazing, caring, and honorable people” All wounded warrior and family member attendees have volunteered their time and effort to helping the foundation, and one of them has asked for a job
Details for March retreat are forthcoming as soon as dates and location are confirmed. Turkey hunting is a possibility we are exploring.
Attendees • Matthew, Brittney and Natalie (4 y/o daughter). Both Matthew and Brittney
served in the Army as Military Police. Matthew was severely injured in an IED in Iraq in 2005 which killed the driver of the vehicle, and he was medically retired from the Army in 2007. They live in Washington State and Matthew has since earned his Associated in Electrical Engineering and is currently enrolled in his Bachelor’s Program.
• Todd, Tara and Liam (13 y/o son). Todd was saved by a miracle 1 year ago after being severely injured in an IED explosion 1 year ago in Iraq. He is still on active duty in Austin TX and going through the military disability rating process. If you google Todd Plybon you can read more about their story.
• Mark and John (Mark’s brother-in-law). Mark served over 26 years in Army Special Forces and was severely injured on a mission in Iraq that resulted in collecting information that led to the capture of Al Qaeda leadership. Due to injuries during that mission and others he was medically separated from the Army as an E-9 and has faced quite a few challenges during the transition. He now resides in PA.
February 2011 Activities • Hunting (deer, hog, etc) • Lone range shooting off the back porch • Marriage Enrichment
• Tonya Waite of the VOW Program provided 8 hours of marriage enrichment to the 2 married couples. On Site child care was provided to 4 y/o Natalie so parents could participate in activities

due to cold weather and icy conditions
