Have your say on the Government’s new strategy for sport! Amid increasing concerns that Britain is failing to live up to the legacy promise of the London 2012 Olympics, a public consultation has been launched to mark the start of a new strategy for sport. Sports Minister Tracey Crouch said: "Sport has such a positive impact on people's lives and I want to embed participation into this nation's DNA”. Last month Crouch also criticised the UK's "severely outdated" sports strategy and she has pledged to "rip up that strategy and start again“. A nine-week consultation has now begun in what could be a major shake-up of sports policy. With Crouch also saying that public funding for sport is a privilege and not a right, it is important that we all share our views on this new strategy whilst we have the opportunity! To view the consultation papers and to leave your comments please visit the following page https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/a-new-strategy-for-sport-consultation

Help to get active for those with mental health problems New research by mental health charity Mind also shows almost 70 per cent of people feel their mental health makes taking part in sport too difficult.

Get Set to Go, which is backed by Sport England and the National Lottery, will support 75,000 people with mental health problems to join mainstream sports clubs, go to the gym or take up a new sport. It will help people become more active through sports projects at eight Mind centres including 2 in London; Brent Mind and Croydon Mind. If you or your club want to learn more about this work and understand the barriers faced by people with mental health problems then Mind has published new information about how to get started with physical activity and how sport can improve physical and mental health here http://www.mind.org.uk/sport
