The Merry Wives of Windsor By William ShakespeareDirected by Ellen Geer ~ June 4 - September 10
One of Shakespeare’s most beloved creations, the opportunistic schemer and womanizer Sir John Falstaff tries to woo two wealthy women at once, and they happily plot his comeuppance.
There is a legend that says Queen Elizabeth of England so loved the character of Falstaff from the history plays of Shakespeare, that her Majesty asked him to write a comedy about the larger-than-life rogue, even though he dies in Henry V. Whatever sparked the imagination of our great Bard to tell the story of Falstaff ’s pompous arrival to the country town of Windsor with his scurrilous buddies, he leaves us with a funny, bawdy, down-to- earth story.
A Midsummer Night’s DreamBy William ShakespeareDirected by Melora Marshall ~ June 5 - June 25 and August 4 - September 25
The delightful tale of misguided mortals and naughty spirits. Theatricum’s signature production is back! Romp through the forest with our ardent young lovers, mischievous fairies and a ragtag band of tradespeople as they encounter a night filled with wonder. There’s no more perfect setting than the leafy bower of Theatricum’s outdoor stage to experience this delightful tale of magic and romance.
Tartuffe (or,The Hypocrite)By MolièreAdapted and Directed by Ellen Geer ~ June 11 - October 1
One of the funniest, yet most scathing, commentaries on human greed and manipulation ever written.
Molière wrote Tartuffe in 1664. When King Louis XIV first saw the play, he considered it harmless and witty. Yet, the Roman Catholic Church had a different interpretation and pressured the King to suppress it. Molière fought hard for his play that reveals the false hearts of powerful hypocrites and religious fanatics. It wasn’t until his third petition, and many rewrites, that the ban on Tartuffe was grudgingly lifted. This wickedly funny play remains Molière’s most popular and most successful.
Richard IIIBy William ShakespeareDirected by Ellen Geer ~ July 2 - October 2Richard weaves a fiery web of intrigue, removing all obstacles – and all people – that stand between him and his designs on the throne of England.
Richard III, a master seducer and brutal murderer, has a voracious ambition that leads his country, still recovering from war, into yet another conflict. But we become fascinated with Richard’s warped version of the truth; are taken in by his charms. He captures us and we willingly follow him on his journey until he wears the crown. It is here that Shakespeare’s masterful tale shifts. We soon see through the tyrant’s motives and cheer when his despicable acts lead to his own destruction. While other plays allow us to remain on the sidelines, this play draws us in and demands that we ask ourselves: how much devastation can we witness before seeing a villain for who he is?
Rose Cottages WEST COAST PREMIERE! By Bill BozzoneDirected by Heidi Helen Davis ~ July 30 - October 2
A de facto family is formed when Rose, the beleaguered owner of a dilapidated tourist motel, reluctantly befriends a disenfranchised teen punker and a sassy older woman who has been abandoned by her son.
What makes a family? How do people adapt to survive unexpected circumstances? In Bozzone’s powerful message of love, relationship and family, we are uplifted by the enduring will of people who search for and create a new home.
Rose Cottages is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
...and presenting in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Pavilion
My Name Is Rachel CorrieFrom the Writings of Rachel Corrie. Edited by Alan Rickman and Katherine VinerDirected by Susan Angelo ~ September 1 - 29General Admission: $12
“I have been in Palestine for two weeks and one hour now...I think, although I’m not entirely sure, that even the smallest of these children understand that life is not like this everywhere...I’m witnessing chronic, insidious genocide and I’m really scared, and questioning my fundamental belief in the goodness of human nature. This has to stop.” ~ Rachel Corrie

all subscribers enjoy Lower Tier seating, substantial savings over single ticket prices and free ticket exchanges. This season, consider a QUeeN’s CoURT subscription. For $10 more per show than our adult subscription package, you get a reserved Lower Tier stadium-style seat. The PaTRoN package offers the same seating advantage as the Queen’s Court, plus reserved parking, pre-show entry and a free beverage.
Not sure of your summer plans? Consider a FLeX Pass! With the Flex Pass, you will receive four vouchers redeemable for Lower Tier tickets at any time during the 2011 season. The Flex Pass can be used however you like - see four different Main Stage Rep shows, or pick two shows and bring a guest to each one, or bring along three friends to see the play of your choice. Starting in late July, you can even see four plays in one weekend! To redeem your vouchers, call the Box Office at least 24 hours in advance of the performance you wish to attend.
