Biography

People knew little of Cabrillo

until he appeared in the ranks

of those who served in Hernan

Cortes' army. Cabrillo was the

captain of the crossbowmen in

the battle between the Aztecs &

the Spanish.

Biography

After the defeat of the Aztecs,

Cabrillo joined expedition that

explored South Mexico, Guatemala

& San Salvador. Cabrillo

eventually settled in Guatemala.

Biography

In 1532, Cabrillo travelled back

to Spain. During his visit,

Cabrillo met and married a woman

named Beatriz Sanchez de Ortega.

Biography

Cabrillo & Ortega returned to

Guatemala together & had two

sons. In 1540, an earthquake

struck the town of Santiago.

Spanish Royalty (cont.)

which resulted in the first ever

act of journalism in the New

World. Between 1540 & 1542,

Cabrillo imported & exported

food between Guatemala, Spain &

other parts of the New World.

In 1542, Cabrillo led an

expedition around the gulf of

California. California had

recently been explored to prove

it was not an island.

Cabrillo discovered 'San Miguel'

which is now referred to as San

Diego.

On November 23, 1542, Cabrillo

was forced to return to San

Salvador, where he started his

journey, because of weather

complications.

While on his way back, Cabrillo

fell ill. On January 3, 1543...

Impacts

Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo impacted

our world in many ways. If he

hadn't explored San Miguel then

San Diego would have been late

in development.

Also, since Cabrillo was the

captain of the crossbowmen,

without Cabrillo the battle

between the Aztecs & Spanish

could possibly be ongoing.
