A LIFE DEDICATED TO THE ART OF WOODCARVING
James has been carving since his early childhood, and has progressed from pocket knife, to gouge and chisel set, to carving with a chainsaw. James is an Scoutmaster, father and husband. He is in an apprenticeship to international renowned woodcarver and teacher, Rick Wiebe. Rick and James teach woodcarving courses and do commissions together as part of his apprenticeship program.
Our trademark style at DukesCarving is using the chainsaw to rough out the form of our carvings, and then using mallet and hand-tools to refine the carving further. Working on our carving in this way with our gouges and chisels allows us to refine our artwork in a way that we could not do with power tools.

William (Bill) Guiney - Chainsaw Wood Carver SILENT AUCTION CARVING AVAILABLE
I only started chainsaw carving in June of 2016 the day after Fathers Day when my wife and daughters bought me a carving bar for Fathers Day. Originally, I was going to make a couple of wood spirits for the yard, so I looked up a Youtube video and carved a couple. Some drivers by saw them and asked if they were for sale so I sold those two and made more, then started looking at videos on how to carve eagles, bears and so on.
I used to live in Whitecourt for about 14 years ago for 8 years so had lots of friends and family out this way. Some buddies of mine out here saw the pics on facebook and asked me to come out and try doing some carvings out here, I flew out in Feb. of 2017 and have been carving and selling since then.Other than that I am 54 years old and honestly never knew I could carve until last year. Had I known I would have been doing this years ago. I love it.
