The LHS Staff has been working this summer to get all things prepared for another school year. Below are a few dates that are important to remember as we come to the close of the summer. I welcome each of you to another school year and look forward to seeing you at Freshmen Orientation and Open House.

Freshmen Orientation Night will take place on July 28 at 6:00-7:00 pm. At this event, all rising freshmen will receive some general information about life at LHS, graduation expectations, advisement, and testing. You will also receive an LHS survival guide that contains much of the information that will make the transition to our school easier. You and your freshmen will also be allowed to walk the building or be a part of a student guided tour. Freshmen iPads will not be distributed on this night.

Open House will take place on August 1 from 5:00-7:00 pm and is open for all grades 9-12. At Open House, all students will be permitted to collect their schedules, meet their teachers, and get important paperwork for the school year including the iPad Optional Protection Plan form (iPad insurance). Online iPad insurance payment receipts can be submitted to advisement teachers, but other forms of payment cannot be taken during Open House. IPads will not be distributed during Open House.

eSMART iPad distribution for all grades will take place on the first day of school, August 3, in advisement. Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. We are very eager for this school year to begin. We hope that you have all enjoyed your summer break. Every staff member has been working very hard to prepare for the return of our wonderful students.

Tips for Parents: Starting Another Year of High School1. Know your child’s teachers. If you have questions or concerns with your child’s academics, contact your

child’s teachers (email addresses and phone numbers are available on the LHS website). 2. Get to know your child’s counselor. 3. Help your student get ready and organized so that he/she can start the semester on the right foot.

Creating a routine is also important for success. 4. Monitor your child’s progress through the online grading program, Infinite Campus, at www.wcpsgrades.org. 5. Watch for flyers regarding upcoming Parent Nights. These events can help answer crucial questions

you might have.6. Help your student learn which study methods work best for him/her (i.e. studying in silence or with

music; at a library or at the kitchen table, etc)7. Above all, contact the school when you have questions or concerns. We are here to help your student

succeed, and we look forward to working with you.

Upcoming SAT and ACT Registration and Test Dates: Test Registration Deadline Test Date SAT September 2 October 1 ACT August 5 September 10 SAT October 7 November 5 ACT September 16 October 22 Register for the SAT online at www.collegeboard.com or the ACT at www.actstudent.org (LHS School Code: 111-850). Be sure to register for the optional writing test on the ACT.

Credit Recovery Opportunity: Loganville High School will be offering students who have fallen behind in credits an opportunity to get back on track. A 5th block credit recovery program will be offered both semesters this year in the 21st Century after school program. There is no cost to this program; however, space is limited. See your counselor for more details.

Student Schedules: Student Schedules will be available on Infinite Campus starting June 30. Please note that this is a tentative schedule for the 2016-2017 school year. It is possible that the semester, block, and/or teachers for courses listed could change. Final schedules will be distributed on the first day of each semester. The Counseling Department will do their best to accommodate the specific academic needs of each student. Nevertheless, please understand that some schedules may be changed for the following reasons:• Students do not pass a required core class• Class sizes need to balanced• Students do not meet the prerequisite for an

Advanced course (85 or above in previous Advanced course or 95 or above in a College Preparatory course)

• Staffing issues and/or course deletions • Schedule conflict with another requested

course Schedule changes will only be made for the following reasons:• Students have already received credit for a class

shown on their schedule• Students are not scheduled for 8 classes• Class on their schedule requires a prerequisite

and they have not passed the prerequisite• Students have all elective classes OR all core

(LA, SS, SC, MA) area classes in the same semester (Foreign Language is an elective)

• Students are official seniors and must have a course to graduate

If your child needs to request a change, he/she can either obtain a form from the Counselor’s Corner link on the LHS website and return the form to their counselor via email, or you may pick up a hard copy of the form outside the counseling office and return it to the designated box. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s counselor.

I M P O R TA N T I N F O R M AT I O N F R O M T H E S C H O O L N U R S E Students cannot receive any medication at school without written parental permission. Parents cannot give permission over the phone for medication administration. Every student will receive a clinic form for health information, contact numbers for emergencies and boxes to check for permission to take medication such as Advil, Tylenol. NO medications can be given if the medication boxes are left blank. Students are not allowed to transport ANY medication to or from school. Students who will need to take Advil or Tylenol frequently will need to have the parent bring in the medication. When a student has received two weeks or ten doses of Advil or Tylenol, the parent must furnish a signed form by the doctor giving permission for the nurse to administer the medication on a regular basis. The clinic form is not optional; every student must return a signed health form with the boxes checked for the appropriate medication. Students with asthma, diabetes, seizures, and allergic reactions will need to come to the clinic to pick up the correct form to complete. Please contact the school nurse when a student is absent from school due to illness or surgery. Please contact the nurse when school work needs to be sent home. The nurse will contact the teachers to arrange work. All contagious illnesses must be reported to the school nurse. For more information, please contact Barrie Whitlock, LHS school nurse, at 678-674-2885 or [email protected].

First Day of School, Wednesday, August 3, 7:30 am in advisement As part of the Walton County School District’s eSMART initiative, all students at LHS have an iPad that is checked out through the Media Center. There is a $20 Optional Protection Plan offered this school year to cover any damages to the iPad. With the OPP, students are allowed to take their iPads to and from campus during the school year. Without the protection plan, students will not be allowed to take an iPad home but they may borrow one while on campus. Students who do not pay for the protection plan will be responsible for the full cost of the iPad repair or replacement. At Open House and the first day of school, students will receive the OPP (iPad insurance) paperwork from their advisors. Students can pay the OPP insurance by cash (exact change) or check (payable to Loganville High School) starting the first day of school. There is also an online payment option through My Payments Plus, https://mypaymentsplus.com. Parents can log onto an existing account or register for an account. This is the same payment system that has been used for the last few years for online meal payment. Please remember to print the receipt from My Payments Plus and give it to the advisor. Once the OPP has been paid and paperwork completed, students will be issued an iPad and a case. Freshmen and new students will also be issued an iPad charger.

Other Additional Information:• Students who had a school issued iPad last year will need to bring their school issued iPad chargers

with them on the first day of school. For students who have lost or broken chargers, they can purchase them in the LHS Media Center ($5.00 for the block and $5.00 for the cable).

• Upperclassmen who still owe money for repairs or loss will not be able to take home an iPad until they have cleared their records.

• Students can use their personal iPads instead of the school issued iPads, but they are responsible for purchasing the apps needed for their classes including Pages, Keynote, iMovie, and Notability.

• For more information concerning iPad distribution, go to www.lhsmediacenter.com. Choose the iPads tab and then choose iPad Distribution.

L H S PA R E N T / T E A C H E R / S T U D E N T O R G A N I Z AT I O N Welcome back students, parents and staff!! The PTSO is very excited about starting the 2016-2017 school year. Once again, the PTSO membership will remain at $10 per family. We encourage all families to help our students and staff by joining this organization. Remember that the majority of all the money raised by PTSO helps fund the PTSO Scholarship Fund for our seniors. In order to be recommended for a PTSO Scholarship, you must have been a PTSO member all of the years the student attended LHS. Membership forms will be available at Open House at the PTSO table. Please stop by the PTSO table to meet our officers, pick up a membership form and purchase LHS spirit wear. These forms will also be sent home with your student at the beginning of the school year, and they are always available under the PTSO tab at www.lhsptso.com. Also, please join our Remind LHS group, https://www.remind.com, @lhspts, for information during the year about various events. Thank you for your continued support of Loganville High School and the PTSO. Let’s have a wonderful school year!!

C T I S T U D E N T S AT T E N D S TAT E L E A D E R S H I P C O N F E R E N C E Career and Technical Instruction students from Loganville High School attended CTI State Leadership Conference April 20-22. The conference was held at Rock Eagle in Eatonton, Georgia. CTI students from all over the state of Georgia came to compete in various career/technical areas. Attending the conference from Loganville High School were Mya Watson, Jonathan White and Gage Williams. They were chaperoned by CTI Coordinator, Trudy Shirah. This year’s trip was a great success! Jonathan White won 1st place in School Project. The LHS CTI students received a Superior Rating on their Outstanding School Notebook. LHS won 2nd in state in this competition. The Loganville group was recognized as the top contributor in the state for their fundraising efforts to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The students behaved wonderfully and represented LHS with pride. The following individuals and organizations made generous donations to enable us to cover the cost for students to attend this conference: Becky Garner, Greg Hickman, Kiwanis Club of Loganville, and Walton County DEES Department.

S E N I O R P O R T R A I T S If your senior has not made an appointment to have his or her senior portrait made by Cady Studios, please go to https://cadystudios.com to schedule a session. All seniors MUST have their pictures made by Cady Studios by August 30 in order to appear in the 2017 yearbook. NO EXCEPTION! Cady Studios will be at Loganville High School on July 21 and 22 in the LHS Auditorium. Cady Studios also offers an “in-studio” option, which students can schedule using the same link (above). This information is also posted on the school’s website, www.loganvillehigh.org, “Parents & Students” tab, and choose “Yearbook” from the drop-down menu.

S E N I O R S A L U TAT I O N S It is time to place orders for Senior Salutations in the 2017 yearbook. These are the ads in the back of the yearbook that recognize seniors for their hard work throughout high school. Space may be limited in the yearbook, and orders for salutations will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. All ads will be in color, and prices are as follows:

Full page $300.00 Up to 10 photos and 250 wordsHalf page $200.00 Up to 5 photos and 125 wordsQuarter page $125.00 Up to 2 photos and 60 wordsEighth page $ 95.00 1 photo only and 30 words

Senior Salutation forms will be available on the school’s website just before the start of school in August. Additional forms will be available in the front office after the first day of school. Please note, senior salutations/pages will be created by the Yearbook staff using pre-designed templates. The staff will not be editing fonts, colors, or layouts of these pre-designed templates. You may still opt to design and submit your own salutation, but the Yearbook staff will be using design templates for the 2017 yearbook. No Senior Salutations will be processed without the signed order form and payment in full.
