AVID NewsAVID APPLICATIONS are NOW being accepted!!! For 2014-15 School year AVID- Advancement via Individual Determination is a system of elective classes for all 9th thru 12th grade students that have a desire to attend and be successful at college. AVID teaches students how to be a successful student through organization, writing, reading, inquiry and collaboration skills. Studies show that 95% of AVID graduates attend and are successful at 4 year Universities. What AVID is…• AVID is an in-school academic support program for grades 7-12 that prepares

students for college eligibility and success.• AVID places academically average students in advanced classes.• AVID levels the playing field for minority, rural, low-income, and other students

without a college-going tradition in their families.• AVID is for ALL students, but targets those in the academic middle. • AVID is implemented school wide and district wide. What AVID is NOT…• AVID is not a remedial program.• AVID isn’t a free ride.• AVID isn’t a niche program• AVID isn’t a college outreach program

Congratulations to our Competitive Cheerleading Squad

Once again these young ladies and gentlemen did us proud going to the State finals before losing on a technicality. We are VERY PROUD of their efforts and feel truly fortunate to have them represent Eustis High School.

Bringing Home the Gold Your Eustis High School Panthers competed in the Special Olympics STATE competition for basketball. Our team triumphantly won first place and received GOLD medals. Jasmine Porter brought home the BRONZE medal finishing 3rd place in the individual skills competition. Thank you Coach Bryie for your outstanding leadership!! We also want to give a big shout out to Charlie Briggs who has supported us this entire season and helped to coach and take care of our group all weekend. Our athletes are proudly wearing their medals. Please congratulate them when they are out and about or stop by Perry Hall, rooms 007 and 008.

ROTC News During the month of February, the JROTC has been selling tickets to the Elks Lodge Charity BBQ. The BBQ is a full course meal and will be held March 8th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We also participated in the African American Heritage Parade and the Georgefest Parade where we teamed up with the Mount Dora AFJROTC to march in the parade. Lastly, few cadets from the Eustis and Mount Dora JROTC had the opportunity to travel to the Air Force Symposium where they displayed some of the technological advancements we have in our military. Those who went had a terrific time and learned a multitude of information about military technology. On behalf of AFJROTC, I would like to congratulate Chase Jensen, Michael Blair, Jessica Westbrook, David Stephens, Michael Williams, Maria Colon, and Devin Arceneauex for being part of the select team to run the 26.2 Bataan Memorial Death March. However, they will not be alone on their trip. Master Sergeant Young and Ms. Mariany will accompany the team as their chaperones. The run will be held on March 23, 2014 at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Good luck to all of you and may you have a safe trip.

Respectfully yours,Christopher EichnerDirector of Resources
