Location scouting is a process conducted in the pre-production of a project. In the professional industry any shots that cannot be produced within a studio have to be shot elsewhere. Once producers, directors and scriptwriters have an idea of scenery that is required within a film they begin searching for the appropriate locations or will hire a location scout to do so.

A location Scout is a person whose occupation requires them to search for locations for various projects. Often before beginning a project would already have a large portfolio of locations previously researched in order to speed up the process of finding one after being given a brief.

The importance of location should not be underestimated as getting it wrong can significantly reduce the quality of the final outcome and greatly detract from the atmosphere you are trying to create. For these reasons it is extremely important that all locations are decided on with great consideration.

A majority of these locations we have found could be considered as being taken from our ‘portfolio’ this is because we were already aware of them and realised they would be perfect for this particular project.

I am very please with the locations that we will be using as they were just the look I feel the group were going for and so should work well within the piece adding to the mise en scene of the final sequence. As location is an extremely important factor I feel it is necessary to seriously consider the type of setting that would complete certain shots and make the situation appear believable. We now have done such a thing which will hopefully be portrayed in our opening sequence.
