April 23, 2017Introit. 1 Pet. 2, 2. As newborn babes, alleluia, desire the rationalmilk without guile, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Ps. 80, 2. Rejoice toGod our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob. V. Glory.Prayer. Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, that we, whohave completed the observance of the paschal festival, may keepit, by Thy bounty, in our life and behavior. Through.Epistle. 1 John 5, 4-10. Dearly beloved, Whatsoever is born ofGod, overcometh the world; and this is the victory whichovercometh the world, our faith. Who is he that overcometh theworld, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This isHe that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not by wateronly, but by water and blood. And it is the spirit which testifieththat Christ is the truth. And there are three who give testimonyin heaven; the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and thesethree are one. And there are three that give testimony on earth;the spirit, the water, and the blood: and these three are one. Ifwe receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God isgreater: for this is the testimony of God which is greater, because He hath testified of His Son. He that believeth in theSon of God hath the testimony of God in himself.Alleluia, alleluia, V. Matt. 28, 7. In the day of My resurrection, saith the Lord, I will go before you into Galilee. Alleluia. V. John20, 26. Eight days after, the doors being shut, Jesus stood in themidst of His disciples and said, Peace be unto you. Alleluia.

Gospel. John 20, 19-31. Atthat time, when it was latethat same day, the first of theweek, and the doors wereshut, where the discipleswere gathered together, forfear of the Jews, Jesus came, and stood in the midst, andsaid to them, Peace be to

you. And when He had said this, He showed them His handsand His side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they sawthe Lord. He said therefore to them again, Peace be to you: asthe Father hath sent Me, I also send you. When He had saidthis, He breathed on them; and He said to them, Receive ye theHoly Ghost; whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiventhem, and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained. NowThomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not withthem, when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said tohim, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Except I seein His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into theplace of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will notbelieve. And after eight days, again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, the doors being shut, andstood in the midst, and said, Peace be to you. Then He said toThomas, Put in thy finger hither, and see My hands, and bringhither thy hand, and put it into My side; and be not faithless, butbelieving. Thomas answered, and said to Him, My Lord, and myGod. Jesus saith to him, Because thou hast seen Me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and havebelieved. Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of Hisdisciples, which are not written in this book. But these arewritten, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son ofGod; and that, believing, you may have life in His name.

Offertory. Matt. 28, 2, 5, 6. An angel of the Lord descendedfrom heaven, and said to the women: He Whom you seek isrisen as He said, alleluia.Secret. Receive, we pray Thee, O Lord, the gifts of Thineexultant Church, and as Thou hast afforded her cause for suchgreat joy, grant her the fruit of unending gladness. Through ourLord.Communion. John 20, 27. Put in thy hand, and know the placeof the nails, alleluia; and be not incredulous, but believing, alleluia, alleluia.Postcommunion. We beseech, O Lord our God, that Thoumake the sacred mysteries which Thou hast given for thebulwark of our redemption, to be unto us a healing both in thepresent and in the future. Through our Lord.

“God does not accept the sacrifice of asower of disunion, but commands that hedepart from the altar so that he may firstbe reconciled with his brother . For God

can be appeased only by prayers thatmake peace. To God, the better offeringis peace, brotherly concord and a peoplemade one in unity of the Father, Son andHoly Ghost.” - St. Cyprian, Bishop & martyr. (Pe Dom, orat. .23:PL4,

Welcome to St. Mary’s OratoryWith the gracious permission of BishopDavid Malloy, Bishop of Rockford, theextraordinary form of Holy Mass is offeredat St. Mary by the Institute of Christ the KingSovereign Priest. We are pleased to have youjoin us in this venerable act of worship andinvite you to return often.

In the traditional Mass everyone has hisproper role whether it be celebrant, choir, server, usher, or congregation. At HighMass, the choir makes all responsessimply because that is their function. The congregation, on the other hand, responds internally, as opposed tovocally, and this is still, according toPope Pius XII in his encyclical “MediatorDei” active participation. Activeparticipation is wide-ranging, such assinging, silent meditation or evenrecitation of the Rosary during Mass, because active participation does notnecessitate vocal responses but unity ofintent with the celebrant (priest). Toassist at Mass more fully, use the missalsprovided in the pews, paying particularattention to any notes in the margin. Allthe “propers,” scriptural parts of theMass, proper to the day. These can befound in the bulletin. Simply followthose around you as to when one shouldstand, sit, or kneel. Lastly, please keep a“holy silence” in the church at all times, out of respect for Christ’s presence in thetabernacle. Since there is no mixing ofthe old and new rites, Holy Communionis to be received on the tongue whilekneeling at the altar rail. the response“Amen” is not said by the communicantwhen receiving the Host.

A kind reminder: Only Catholics inthe state of grace (not have commit-ted a grave sin) and having fasted for

1 hour, are free to receive HolyCommunion.
