O n Wednesday, June 22, nearly two dozen people gathered at the Brighton Dis- trict Library to attend the an- nual meeting and hear Brenda Dziedzic’s presentation about attracting butterflies to your garden. The evening started off with President Roy Schwarz speaking about the purpose of the Livingston Land Conservancy and the acquisition of the Round Lake of Hartland Nature Preserve with the associated debt car- ried by the conservancy re- sulting from the purchase of a portion of the preserve. The need for monetary donations to help pay down the loans was an important part of Roy’s talk. F ollowing several days of rain the weather cleared for the

dedication of the Livingston Land Conservancy’s latest acquisition, the Kernie King Memorial Fen. At about 10 a.m. several cars parked along Coon Lake Road west of Chilson Road at the site of the new sign marking the prop-erty. Relatives of Kernie, mem-bers of the Livingston Land Conservancy and neighbors

of the Kernie King Memorial Fen gathered to hear LLC President Roy Schwarz and Vice President Sara Thomas comment on the purpose and mission of the Livingston Land Conservancy and the history of the fen. We are very fortunate to be able to steward such a unique prop-erty and to give a lasting legacy

to Kernie King.

Kernie King Memorial Fen Dedication held on April 30

The purpose of the Livingston Land Conservancy is to protect the natural heritage and rural character of
