Arthritis and InflammationThe most common type is osteoarthritis, a

disease that wears away the articular cartilage—the synovial joint’s dense, rubbery tissue that provides a covering cushion between the ends of bones. When the cartilage grows thinner, adjacent bones start to rub together creating stiffness and pain.

As the disease progresses, the synovium becomes inflamed, and bone spurs may grow around the joint and create additional painful friction. Although osteoarthritis is usually related to the aging process, sport injuries or obesity

Main Feature

One of our greatest health challenges is avoiding the pain associated with arthritis—

joint inflammation. Encompassing over 100 conditions, arthritis is prevalent around the globe with around 10 percent of the world’s population affected by its symptoms.

In the USA, approximately fifty million people have been diagnosed with some form of arthritis. As many as three hundred thousand of those afflicted are children, so it is a misconception only the elderly have arthritis. It’s a disease that affects both genders of all ages. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls it “the nation’s most common cause of disability.”

This disabling disease creates pain, stiffness, aching, and swelling in and around the joints of the body. De-pending on the type of arthritis and the severity of the symptoms, it can slow a person down or severely limit activities. In any case, it is a disease that can have a largely negative im-pact on one’s quality of life.

Everyday activities that most people take for granted suddenly become physical challenges. Arthritic pain that limits the ability to walk, climb stairs, or simply bend over also affects normally pain-free, daily activities, such as personal hygiene, cleaning, and cooking. Furthermore, complications from certain rheumatic conditions can impact muscles, bones, or internal organs. In the worst case scenario, arthritis can be life-threatening.

Joint Inflammation

Page 5: Living Well - September - 2012

September 2012 5

can also stimulate the onset of the disease. For all types of arthritis, being overweight intensifies the strain, and therefore the pain, in the weight-bearing joints.

Roughly 1.6 million North Americans of all ages have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an inflammatory, auto-immune disease that specifically attacks the synovium—joint membrane—as well as other body tissues. Women are affected by this crippling form of arthritis three times more often than men.

The many types of arthritis make a long list of conditions, including tennis elbow, back pain, fibromyalgia, gout, and lupus. At the core of all of these conditions is inflammation, the underlying factor in most diseases. Chronic joint inflammation affects quality of life by creating continual pain that limits what a person can do physically and, as a serious side effect, greatly affects mental well-being.

With an aging generation of baby boomers who are living longer, diagnoses of arthritis are likely to escalate exponentially. To maintain quality of life, the challenge is how to effectively deal with the disease, whichever type of joint inflammation. healthy body weight, good nutrition, and regular physical activity naturally help to manage or prevent joint pain. The choice of taking medication for arthritic symptoms or using natural health products to help prevent or alleviate arthritis is an individual one. It's your decision.

AIM provides a variety of natural products that help balance body ph, fight inflammation, remove toxins, and build healthy cells, all of which help the body to heal. AIM products that help to prevent arthritis or deal with its symptoms include AIM Frame Essentials® and the Daily Essentials—AIM BarleyLife® or AIM BarleyLife® Xtra (US), AIMega®, and AIM Herbal Fiberblend® or AIM FibreBalance® (CAN). Go natural and stop joint inflammation at the painful source.

Joint InflammationI’ve been enjoying retire-ment since 2000 after twenty years of teaching high school. If it wasn’t for the Daily Essentials and Frame Essentials, I wouldn’t be the healthy, active (junior) senior that I am today. I don’t have any aches and pains. At sixty-eight years of age, I’m not on any medication, and I don’t have health concerns like my peers, or those younger.Jan Baxter, AIM DirectorWaterloo, Ontario

After I started taking two Frame Essentials capsules twice a day, my aching back began to feel so much better. When I ran out for two weeks, the pain returned. Once I was on it again, my back felt so much better. Thanks AIM for great products.Janis Damask, AIM DirectorPetersburg, Michigan

Testimonial

Diagnosed with throat cancer at the age of fifty-eight, Valerie Beales had to undergo massive amounts of chemotherapy and thirty-five radiation treatments over a two-year period. The radiation burned her so badly that the skin on her neck was discolored and blistered. It looked so repulsive that before going out, she had to wrap up her neck.

“When we were out in public with my neck all bandaged up, my husband John used to say ‘What if someone thinks I strangled you?’” recollected Valerie. John passed away a week before their fortieth wedding anniversary. “Before he died, he said that he didn’t know why I was still alive. ‘Must be your meanness,’ he would say jokingly.” The radiation also impacted her nervous system. Valerie would sometimes just fall down, for no apparent reason. “I wasn’t functioning well in body or mind.”

Valerie was hospitalized in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, and eventually had to be fed intravenously. She could not swallow any solid food as her throat and esophagus had also been affected by over-radiation, making them raw and painful. “The doctors put a Vaseline-like cream down my throat to freeze it. I could barely breathe,” recalled Valerie. “I was given Demerol and morphine to ease the pain.”

By April 2012, Valerie weighed only seventy-eight pounds when her brother, Jim Fitzgerald, came for one of his regular visits to her home. Jim was terribly saddened to see his sister so wasted away and drained of energy. he gave her an information sheet about AIM Chairman’s Club Director Janet Pauly and her battle with cancer and asked Valerie if she had ever heard of AIM BarleyLife®. Jim had been buying AIM products for several years from AIM Chairman’s Club Directors Ken and Cheryl huxter.

After reading about Janet’s health improvement from the nutrient-rich juice powder of young barley plants, Valerie said,

“This sounds great.” her brother had

brought along half a canister of BarleyLife

hidden in a brown paper bag. But before handing it over, Jim said,

“I’m not going to give it to you unless you take it.”

“I could get only bits of food down and thought I was going to die, so I decided to try it,” said Valerie. “But I did have to get used to the taste.” Jim came by every day, always checking up on her and making sure that she was taking BarleyLife, which was beginning to have a positive effect on her health. Along with the nutrients that Valerie so desperately required, BarleyLife’s anti-inflammatory property was like cold water to a thirsty soul by reducing the burning inflammation in her throat and esophagus that had kept her from eating solid food.

Once she started taking BarleyLife, her appetite returned. By June 2012, Valerie had gone through one and a half canisters, and she weighed 103 pounds—a gain of twenty-five pounds within two months. her brother’s continuing watchdog persistence has paid off healthily. “Before BarleyLife, I couldn’t even walk from the living room to my bedroom. I used to need a cane or walker to get around,” said Valerie. “Now I could jump over Jim! This is the best I’ve felt since being diagnosed.”

After seeing her deathly ill just a short time ago, Jim told Valerie how excited he was to see her

looking so well. One of her doctors also remarked on her improved appearance including the skin on her neck, and, in reply, Valerie mentioned that she had been taking BarleyLife. Life is closer to normal for Valerie these days. With newfound energy, she is back to doing things she enjoys, such as making bread.

Besides the support of her brother Jim, Valerie lives with two of her grandsons, Shane and Griffin, who moved in to be close to her after the death of their grandfather. With a thirteen- and fifteen-year-old under the same roof, life goes on actively for Valerie. her grandsons have echoed the words of her brother and doctor when they say, “Nana, we’ve never seen you look so good!”

˝More Time˝ with AIM BarleyLife®At sixty years old,

Valerie looks back at her life, considering some of the factors of her battle with throat cancer. Being a two-packs-a-day smoker is something she could live without. As for the present, Valerie is grateful for having people like her brother and grandsons in her life and the opportunity of simply being around to enjoy life. “I know how good I feel now,” acknowledged Valerie.

“I’m impressed with BarleyLife. Maybe it’s given me some more time.”

During an incredibly important development stage in life, few kids get the nutrition they need.

This is where AIM products can help.

Meridian, IdahoWhen I started working for my parents (Chairman’s Club Directors Carolyn and Jim Kling) a little over 14 years ago, managing their Green Barley Nutrition Center in Nampa, Idaho, I remember saying to them, “I would love to manage your business, but I’m not interested in building an AIM business or holding meetings.” My mom reminded me of that just a few weeks ago as we were planning another meeting with one of our wonderful local AIM business builders. We both had to laugh.

Over the years as I attended the AIM Texas BarleyLife Conventions, the annual AIM Convention, and the Ohio BarleyLife Convention, my heart and mind began to change. I could see that this was a people business, a way to help people feel better using wonderful whole-food nutritional products, and this was a wonderful ministry. As I began to know and then come to love the other AIM Members and great AIM staff, I knew I had found something to pour my energies and passions into that would give back lasting rewards. And that is just what has happened.

Leré Robinson promotes to Star Sapphire Director

Irmo, South CarolinaPromoting to Star Sapphire Director is a dream come true for me. I have stuck with AIM throughout the years and been faithful to the products despite being headhunted by many different companies who wanted me to sell their products. But because AIM’s products work, I have stayed with AIM. I’ve seen the breakthrough in my life and in my children’s lives.

I have been absolutely sold on the products. Even through the different seasons of my life, I have continued using the products

faithfully, and it shows. People ask me why my children never get sick or why my skin looks so good. I tell them that I eat a clean, whole-food diet and take the AIM products. It’s a matter of being faithful to a product that works and a company that has ethics.

I started sharing little by little. My focus is on knowledge, so I educate people, I do health talks. In a very subtle way, I work AIM products into that. There are so many people that push products down people’s throats. God has given me a unique ability to share the health AIM products bring.

Perry and Marilyn Sue Lehman promote to Royal Emerald Directors

Topeka, IndianaWe’re very excited to be in the elite director position. Our downline helped get us there. We’ve had some very enthusiastic downline people who have given us awesome testimonies. Seeing our people are excited has kept us excited. We have some really good meetings. Through women’s health

meetings and conferences, we help keep people interested in the products and their health. Our downline is definitely what keeps us going.

We love our AIM products and love what we do in the business. God has given us lots of blessings.

Testimonial

I’m a mother of four, and my husband is disabled by multiple sclerosis. health problems, much of which are stress-related, have plagued me my entire life. I have endured sensitive skin that caused eczema,  pimples, and little,  red spots on my follicles; digestive problems that made me run to the bathroom with no warning; a stomach that used to swell up to the size of a balloon; and a painful gallbladder, which I was told would probably have to be removed.

On top of all of this, from the age of thirteen I have had painful cysts on my ovaries. At one point, I had seventeen cysts on one ovary. I tried a whole slew of homeopathic remedies, but nothing worked.

In the summer of 2002, I fractured my neck in three places in a rollover car accident. My neck has hurt ever since. A couple of years ago, I started to notice arthritic pain in my lower back as a result of a spinal injury and was told that there would probably be more problems arising as I get older. But I could take muscle relaxants and pain medications the rest of my life.

About five years ago, I had to have a colonoscopy because  there was a lot of blood loss in my bowel movements. Three different doctors told me essentially the same thing: I had too much stress and should relax.

After my fourth child, my weight started to increase—the first time the weight didn’t come off after giving birth. I’d always had a healthy diet and had never been that heavy. I felt like a bad Mom. “how can I teach my children to eat healthy if I look like this?” I thought. I had no energy to keep up with my baby.

I was also diagnosed with acid reflux, which my doctor said would worsen without

medication. About a year ago, my neighbor, AIM Star Sapphire Director Robert Smalley, gave me AIM BarleyLife® Xtra. In February 2012, when I asked about what could help my acid reflux, he told me to take BarleyLife Xtra three times a day, so I did.

BarleyLife Xtra worked the first day on my acid reflux. I kept taking it even though I had detoxification symptoms for about two weeks. In fact, all of my other health problems began to disappear. I started to lose

weight, too—eight pounds in the first week. I added AIM herbal Fiberblend® at this point. By mid-July, I had lost thirty-seven pounds.

I want to thank AIM for providing me with products that improved my health. I started  studying to become a health coach as a way to help others to improve their health as well.

Business

AIM Preferred Member Kyera Reams needed to find work that she could do out of her home. The mother of four and the wife of a husband living with multiple sclerosis, Kyera also struggled with a lifetime of personal health problems. She tried AIM products, turned her health around, and found a way to earn an income from home—all within a few months. Kyera accomplished all of this with the help of her neighbor, Robert Smalley, AIM Star Sapphire Director.

Robert (right) cannot say enough about the benefits of AIM’s barley grass powder, so when Kyera asked him for a solution to acid reflux, he knew exactly what she needed. With a master’s degree in education and twenty years of holistic healing under his belt, Robert has spent a great deal of his life in the pursuit of helping others with their health concerns.

Over and above introducing Kyera to the health benefits of AIM, Robert has been instrumental in lending a helping hand to get her home-based business started. Along with tons of AIM literature, Robert provided her with $1,000 worth of AIM products, which Kyera sold and received a third of the profits.

Following this initial success, Kyera signed up as an AIM Member in March 2012, and by April, she was already a Preferred Member earning commissions from her downline. Kyera is creating opportunities to tell people about AIM. For instance, she bakes bread and rolls to sell at farmers’ markets, where she shares her health triumphs with those who are interested.

Kyera and Robert have worked at various events in their town of Osage, Iowa. For example, Kyera and Robert set up a table at an April craft fair, where together they created an AIM presence for the locals and tourists.

As a living testament to those who wish to improve their health, Kyera is successfully spreading the word about the benefits of becoming a Member and using AIM products.

Kyera is off to a fine start in building her home-based business. Reaching out through AIM turns into people helping people. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

Product Feature

With over 150 million worldwide incidences yearly, urinary tract infections (UTIs) are an increasingly serious health problem. Women are the primary target; however, the risk of infection for both men and women increases with age. Canadian Members can now receive the benefits of AIM CranVerry®+ in helping to prevent urinary tract infections.

Things are a little different north of America. Whenever a new natural health product is introduced by The AIM Companies™, AIM Canada™ must submit a product license application to health Canada for approval by the Natural health Products Directorate. This takes time, money, and patience, along with formulaic adjustments if necessary. So CranVerry+ has distinct differences in Canada (as do its citizens) while being the same in terms of its powerful, main ingredient, CranMax®—made from 100 percent cranberry fruit solids.

Found in both the American and Canadian formula, Cran-Max® has been clinically proven to be effective in the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI’s) due to the unique proanthocyanidins (PACs) in cranberries. Unlike those found in a variety of fruits, cranberry PACs have the unique ability to prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls

of the urinary tract, allowing such pathogens to be easily eliminated through urination. In a Canadian study, incidences of urinary tract infections in test subjects taking Cran-Max® were reduced 44 percent compared to those given a placebo. PACs are also antioxidants, which mean that cranberries are doubly effective by protecting other areas of the body from disease.

Mangosteen fruit and rind concentrate are a part of the CranVerry+ formula in both countries. To make one pound of this concentrate, it takes twenty pounds of mangosteens for a 20:1 concentration per capsule. The rind of this exotic fruit contains plant phenols called xanthones, which have antibacterial properties to further

protect against urinary tract infections.

The Canadian formula also contains juniper fruit extract. Juniper has been traditionally used in herbal medicine

as a urinary tract antiseptic to help relieve UTIs by increasing the flow of urine and helping to flush out bacteria.

AIM is renowned for its synergistic ingredient combinations that add to the benefits of the main product ingredient, and CranVerry+ is no exception, no matter which side of the United States–Canada border.
