Songwriter Cosy Sheridan will perform in concert on Saturday February 22 at The Moab Arts & Recreation Center. The concert will begin at 7 pm.
She has been called one of the era’s fi nest and most thoughtful songwriters. “Intelligent and clever lyrics with stickable melodies,” said Sing Out Magazine. She plays a percussive bluesy guitar style backed by the strong rhythms and harmonies of her bass player Charlie Koch.
She fi rst appeared on the national folk scene in 1992 when she won the songwriting contests at The Kerrville Folk Festival and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She has been on the road ever since, playing clubs, concert halls and coff eehouses across the country. “You can’t make it into double digits, and continue touring for twenty or so years, unless you know what you’re doing, and do it well,” said The Chicago Examiner. She continues to be one of the most prolifi c songwriters on the folk scene. Her release Pretty Bird was among Sing Out Magazine’s Great CDs of 2014; her song My Fence & My Neighbor listed at # 4 on folk radio in 2018.
Cosy Sheridan in Concert, February 22nd In 1993, Sheridan fi rst came to Moab to play a concert
produced by longtime Moabite Andy Nettell. She fell in love with the redrock country and moved to town in 1994 with fellow songwriter TR Ritchie. She was a resident of Moab until 2014. During that time she co-founded the Moab Folk Camp, which takes place each autumn just before the Moab Folk Festival.
She was a voice student at The Berklee College of Music, and a guitar student of legendary fi nger style players Eric Schoenberg and Guy Van Duser. She has played at Carnegie Hall, The Cowgirl Hall of Fame and on the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Her songs have appeared in Robert Fulghum’s books and on The Dr Demento Show.
She now lives in the Boston area with her husband and bass player, Charlie Koch.
Tickets for the show are $12 at the door. For more information about Cosy Sheridan, go to www.cosysheridan.com
