PART I SCHOOL PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLAN REQUIRED COMPONENTS A. LMMS will jointly develop/revise with parents the school parent involvement plan and distribute it to parents of participating children and make

available the parent involvement plan to the local community. The District and LMMS Parent Involvement Plan and policy was posted on the website after meeting revision dates held in May. Three meetings were held to approved and finalize the policy, plan and compact for use at LMMS during the 2013-2014 school year. Input received from these meetings and from email correspondence throughout the summer of 2013 was put into the final draft of the plan/policy (here) and into the Compact for Achievement. The approved compact, containing the draft district goals, will be distributed at Open House for signatures from parents who attend. Policy/Plan/Remaining compacts will be distributed at the Annual Meeting to be held in September 2013.

B. Convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school's participation under this part and to explain the requirements of this part, and the right of the parents to be involved. LMMS Title I Program will conduct an Annual Meeting in early September to present the district parental involvement policy, the LMMS parental plan, policy and compact. Parents who have not yet signed their compact will do so at this time.

C. offer a flexible number of meetings, such as meetings in the morning or evening, and may provide, with funds provided under this part, transportation, child care, or home visits, as such services relate to parental involvement.

PART III ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In carrying out the parental involvement requirements of this part, districts and schools, to the extent practicable, shall provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with children with limited English proficiency, parents with children with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports in a format and, to the extend practicable, in a language such that parents can understand.

Page 19: Little Mill Middle School Title I Parent Involvement Plan ...€¦ · Increase the number of community groups/partnerships – ESOL, grandparent as parents, and single parent groups

LMMS is part of a district plan for MV, Migrant, Homeless, ELL and SpEd student as well as our neglected facilities – Bald Ridge Lodge for boys and Jesse’s House for girls. All students are included in the Title I pool and no student who shows academic risk factors is excluded from support, services or activities due to their status in any of these areas. Explicit effort is made to reach out to these families in the following ways:

MV/Homeless

Issue Due to information from Gladys Alvarez at the Hill Center, there is a specific need for undergarments for our middle school students in this area.

Response LMMS FEAT team, in conjunction with local sponsoring agencies, held a underwear drive to specifically collect undergarments in these sizes. This event, held in December, has been very successful for the past two years.

Migrant

Issue Lack of transportation to events held at Hill Center

Response LMMS PIC seeks to actively build rapport with these families and stays in weekly contact to deliver information in a liaison capacity from the Hill Center to the family as is appropriate

ELL

Issue Need for invitations and information in native language

Response Family Resource Center has ordered many materials available for checkout in Spanish. All meetings and print material sent out about PI activities is sent in Spanish. A parent volunteer has been secured to call parents to personally invite them to all PI events on a monthly basis.

Special Ed students are included in all Title I support classes and PI activities as is appropriate to meet their IEP goals.
