PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM
.
“Let us remember: One book,
one pen, one child and one teach-
er can change the world.” Malala Yousafzai
To the above quote from the young Pakistani
woman who became the youngest Nobel
Prize winner ever in 2014, I know we could
add the words “one Foster Grandparent.”
Our Foster Grandparents are changing the
lives of the children they work with every
day, and thereby changing the world! The
care they give to their students, and the
knowledge they share with them are both
life altering contributions to the children in
our Toledo Public Schools and at the
Catholic Club’s Infant and Children’s
Programs.
Here’s what one program director had to say
about her program:
Foster Grandparents are a powerful force to
improve educational outcomes. They also
serve as a constant, reliable presence for
children in need of positive adult role mod-
els. Connecting generations provides both
students and Foster Grandparents with a
chance to learn, share, and form a bond.
This program changes the lives of the chil-
dren involved. It also changes the lives of
the Foster Grandparents and the teachers
and staff who support them. This program is
about learning, but it’s also about service,
joy and connection.
I couldn’t have said it any better!
As our dedicated Foster Grandpar-
ents head back to school for yet
another year of world changing
influence through the love and
assistance they share with the
children they serve, I know you
will all join me in wishing them a
successful school year and in
saying THANK YOU to all of them
for their extraordinary service to
the children of our city!
