    Every year on March 2nd, schools aroundthe world celebrate Dr. Seusss Birthday.This year was no different for MarchElementary. The day was filled withevents both school-wide and classroombased.

    Some events were:- Troy Hein from Chanel 69 news and

    author of Jay at Play, read Oh thePlaces youll Go to our 3rd and 4thgraders.

    - Robert Moskaitis, a Easton SchoolBoard member, read to our PM Kindergarten.

    - Janet Matthews, a Easton School Board member, also read.- Mrs. Steinberg read to our 1st and 2nd graders- EAHS Ambassders share the day with us.- Cat in the Hats in Training (article on pg 2)- Students were given Cat in the Hat presents (bookmark and

    pencil) after naming as many Dr. Seusss books as possible.- More on the next page

    " On March 2, 2012we had Cat in the Hatsin Training reading to allour classrooms." The Cat in theHats in Training were 3rdand 4th grade students who choose a Dr. Seuss book and read it todifferent classes through out the day. The students received Cat inthe Hat hats for reading. Some were also able to read with EAHSambassadors." Cat in the Hats in Training are part of our year long StudentMystery Reader program. Students sign up at the start of the year to

    read to classrooms at different points inthe year. This was our second eventof the school year. The first was whenstudents read versions of The NightBefore Christmas in December.

    The Lafayette College

    America Reads/AmericaCounts tutors have

    returned after their winter

    semester break. We are

    so very fortunate to have

    nineteen (19) superb and

    enthusiastic tutors giving

    a total of seventy-nine

    (79) hours weekly

    working with the F.A.March students. The

    tutors are working in

    classrooms--

    Kindergarten-Fourth

    grade supporting reading

    and math skills and

    strategies in small groups

    settings.

    The March School

    teachers are veryappreciative of the

    support and dedication

    showed to the students

    and staff through this

    partnership with Lafayette

    Colleges Leadership and

    Co-Curricular Service

    Learning Department.

    Mrs. Laslos 2ndgrade class did aWhoville Diner"activity, were they

    needed to add certain menuitems together and figure outtheir change.

    In library studentswere able to read andwork with Dr. SeussCharacters

    Another activity donewas estimating howlong their foot wasusing different typesof measurement.

    " FAME booster week is a fantastic time for our children toget a fresh start on the reminders of how to be an excellentstudent. We discuss the focus area needing to be polished forthe remainder of the year, focus on respect- stepping up to theplate with manners, greetings and keeping hands feet andobjects to self are a few of the items." Students were recognized with red stars for this specificobjective! We have LOTS of students doing what is asked!Look at the amount of red stars handed out to the students infive days! We certainly change behaviors and set the bar highfor a positive climate in this school.

    Our children then performed grade level productions at theMarch Pride Day Assembly to share what was learned!

    FAME Booster Week

    Mrs. Wilcoxs class and Mrs.Gottliebs ESL class made aspecial memory book for1st grader Bradley on hislast day at March school.Bradley will be attendingPaxinosa school next week.

    He is looking forward tomeeting his new teachersand new friends.

    On February 27, 2012 March Elementary and March PTAosted the PTAs Founders Day. This day is meant to celebrate theundation of the original PTA organization and all that PTA does for

    ur students.The event was held in the March Elementary Cafetorium.

    aston Area School District administration, principals, other EASDchool PTAs and teachers were invited.

    Upon arrival guest were greeted by our Leopard Council, 3rdnd 4th grade students, who helped with coats and gave name tags.so that night our 3rd and 4th grade chorus sang and did a

    henomenal job.

    An onlinemath program withgames to practice allareas of math skills. Itcan be played both atschool and home.

    During PSSA week Mrs. Wieder, the schoolnurse, went into the 3rd grade classroomand taught lessons about dental health,proper brushing and flossing and nutrition.The students performed activities, whichincluded comparing different toothpastes ondyed hard-boiled eggs. They collected data

    on the number of strokes within a 2 minute brushing period to makethe egg white again and then used that information to learn how to

    create graphs. At the end of theweek the students received goodybags withtoothbrushes, dentalfloss (donated by Dr.Tenczas office) andcoloring tablets fortheir own teeth toobserve areas thatare missed whenthey brush.

    Box Top Update

    For the month of February,the Little Leopards have

    been busy collecting,sorting and counting BoxTops. We have collected1,025 Box Tops. First gradeis on top this month,bringing in 312 Box Tops.Our total for the yearcontinues to grow! Wehave collected 9,564 BoxTops this year!

    Third and Fourth grade students at F.A. March Elementary whoearned all of their blue ribbons in math skills on Study Island,participated in a luau lunchon Friday, March 9, in Mrs.

    Brunettis room. Studentsput the efforts into learningthe skills necessary to beproficient. Working at homeand at school, theycompleted the online StudyIsland math program.Students were served pizzaand tropical fruit whilelistening to island music.

    " For the past three years withFirst and Second Grade, thelibrarian, Miss Kordek doesPennsylvania Young Readers

    Choice Award." Miss Kordek reads booksfrom the Young Readers ChoiceAward list created by teachers andlibrarians. While reading the storiesMiss Kordek and the studentsdiscuss what they liked and did notlike about the different books. Theyalso discuss that it is alright not tolike some books. Students then getto vote on the book that they like the best using Google Surveys. All

    studentss votes are sent into the state to be counted to find the topbook for all the state. We will not know until April what won for the

    state. It was a very tight race with Zig and Wikki in Something Atemy Homework, Dino-Baseball, and Lets Do Nothing coming in close
