The World
Literacy
Key Text: Around the World in Eighty Days (Jules Verne's Adventure Sto-
ries) Antonis Papatheodoulou (Author)
Purpose for writing: Non-narrative– report writing, poetry– vocabulary
building and structure.
Writing: Children will become familiar with the features of a report and
understand that reports are used to present detailed, descriptive infor-
mation about a subject in a non-chronological format. They will under-
stand the structure of a report and the language features included.
Grammar: Children will continue their understanding of past and present
tense and will be able to use this consistently in their writing. We will also
continue to look at subordination and coordination to improve our sen-
tences. :
Reading: Children will focus on how we can infer from the text and how
we can make predictions based on the information we have gained from
the text.
Maths
Key Facts: Fractions, measurement– time and volume.
Fractions: During our unit on fractions this term, children will be learning
about 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3’s. We will be able to recognize these fraction both
as a symbol and as a portion of a shape or object. We will be adding simple
fractions such as 1/2+ 1/2. We will be learning using both practical and
written methods.
Measurement– time and volume: In this unit children will be learning how
to tell the time accurately using both analogue and digital clocks. Children
will also be using a variety of resource's to learn how to measure volume
in litres and milliliters
Science
Biology: Plants– changes over time Children will reflect back on their learning of Plants in Autumn 2. They will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants and think about how the different parts of the plant help this to happen. Children will consider how they can help the seeds and bulbs grown into healthy plants. They will also compare healthy plants and think about whether they need anything different to survive. Working Scientifically: Children will learn to observe plants closely and make descriptive observations about what they can see. They will learn to identify different plants and discuss their simple features. Children will learn how to ask questions and how to record and gather infor-mation to answer these questions. (Please see Science knowledge organiser for essential knowledge and vocabulary to be learnt.)
Geogrpahy
Focus: The World Children will be exploring different parts of the globe and begin with un-derstanding how to use atlas’ , globes and maps. They will further this knowledge with learning about the poles, the equator and the difference between the northern and southern hemisphere. To complete the unit, children will learn the 4 points of a compass and how this applies to the world.
(Please see Geography knowledge organiser for essential knowledge and vocabulary to be learnt.) RE

Children will begin to understand the special relationship between Jews
and God and the promises they make to each other. They will hear
about the Covenant (covenant/promise) story of Abraham and think
about the promises made in these stories. Children will move on to
think about whether Jews still have this special relationship with God
and how this is reflected in the Jewish home.
Design and Technology Focus: DT- Wheels and Axels Children will explore a range of wheeled products, such as toys
and everyday objects. They will consider the design of these prod-
ucts and how they move. Children will generate ideas for a
wheeled product using a simple design criteria, and will use a
range of tools and equipment to create their design. Throughout
this, they will explore and evaluate products, including their own,
and use technical vocabulary relevant to the project.
