Literacy Learning beginning 22nd June (Term 6 Week 4) Week beginning Objective Task Lesson 1 Report comment We would like children to think about their Year 4 experience and write a short summary of their highlights, achievements, things they would like to improve next and what they are looking forward to in Year 5. This will then be added to their end of year report so please send a copy to Miss Pilgrim or Mrs Gabler (ideally typed!) as soon as possible. The summary should be up to 150 words and reflect the things that they have enjoyed and are proud of. They may like to comment on the following: - History work based on the Vikings/Anglo-Saxons and our visit from Clive Pig - Personal achievements such as story of success - The Christmas theatre trip to watch the Snow Queen - Science experiments you have enjoyed - Art Week including learning lunch - Key texts you have enjoyed (Beowulf; The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe; Mr Stink) As this is an incredibly unusual school year, they may also like to include a couple of sentences about their home learning experience. Lesson 2 Use it: To plan a narrative Resource 1 Today you can really use your creativity! You are going to plan your own story about a duel (competition) that two characters are not supposed to have, but do anyway! Your story may feature a dance off, a display of football skills, artistic talent or something else. Think about how your two competitors know each other. What makes them different/ alike? Who is it who wants to spoil their fun? Here is the link to Monkey Symphony if you would like a reminder of their duel. Lesson 4 and 5

Prove it: To write a narrative based in a duel

Today and tomorrow, you are going to write your story that focuses on a duel between two characters. Remember to use your plan to help you! Think about these skills that you can include:

- A variety of fronted adverbials - Compound/Complex sentences/simple sentences - Expanded noun phrases with a propositional phrase - Paragraphs (each section in your plan will be a new paragraph) - Speech punctuation

- Show don’t tell (emotions) Slightly Easier: Use your plan to write the beginning introducing your character and setting, the dilemma between your two characters and the resolution to the problem. Task: Use your plan to write each section of the story.

- Your setting will include a setting description and will introduce your two main characters. Think about uses the 5 senses for the setting descriptions to give a clear picture. Describe your two character, what are their personalities like?

- Your build up will hint about the problem that is about to occur and lead up to it. You will need to describe the activity that the characters will have a competition in.

- Your dilemma will include a problem that happens between the two characters during the activity. Do they fall out? Does either of them get hurt? Does one character upset the other? What emotions are the characters feeling?

- Your resolution will involve your characters coming to an agreement/ sorting out their problem. How do they sort the problem out? Are you characters happy again?

- Your ending will include how your characters have moved on. (Link back to the setting).What have your characters learnt from the situation?
