1 LISTENING ACTIVITY ACTIVITY NAME: AUSTRALIAN ANIMALS CUED LISTENING Purpose Retrieval of known information and gaining new knowledge through listening Students will develop and consolidate listening skills and speak in sentences Strategies Brainstorming or mind mapping, visuals, peer discussion and judicious review are a few strategies that could support this lesson. Resources Visual of chosen Australian Animal Laminated descriptor cards, blank laminated card and white board marker Selected passage describing animal features Instructions 1. Provide each student with a descriptor card (e.g. ‘strong back legs’) and a white board marker. 2. Tell the students to listen for the specific information about the feature stated on their card when you start reading the passage. 3. Ask the students to place the completed descriptor card onto the poster and to tell all the information they know about the feature in full sentences.
