Kindest regards everyone Sandra Smith JP Principal – Tumuaki Staff Profile: Sandra Smith – Principal When I came to Linwood North School as Deputy Principal in August 1999, I had no idea just what a wonderful community of learning I would be working in or that I would have the privilege of leading the learning and become Principal in 2003. Over the years I have had the ongoing support of a great Board of Trustees, Teaching and Support Staff together with the joy of the company of many wonderful children and their whanau, some of who are now returning to Linwood North with their own children. I just love being able to make a difference in the lives of children and their families in the Linwood community. Every day at school brings both its rewards and its challenges! I live in Burwood with my partner Garry, together with Romeo, our Birman cat and Dougal our Scottish Terrier puppy. I have three adult children. Matthew lives in Sydney and Sarah Jane and Daniel here in Christchurch. We love chilling out with our three grandchildren. I am especially proud that our grandson, Samuel Cave has started school here at Linwood North School in Room 1 last Monday. In my spare time I love catching up with my family and friends, enjoy my garden, playing competitive bridge, learning to play better golf, yoga, reading, music and travel. We love spending time relaxing on our launch in the Marlborough Sounds and catching blue cod! I enjoy the privilege of serving the community as a Justice of the Peace and my role as a registered marriage celebrant and a funeral celebrant, which I hope to pursue as I plan toward my retirement in around five years’ time.

News from the Kakano Team and Miss Collins We have opened Room One with Mrs Tizzard and Miss Collins sharing this class until the 20th August when we welcome Miss Bethan Philp back to Linwood North School. She is very excited to be returning to Linwood North and also looks forward to connecting with the families and the students she knows. Mrs Tizzard and Miss Collins are loving being back in Room One and working with our newest learners. A highlight recently has been making Ninja Turtle biscuits as a Language Experience for the letter Tt. They were also tasty!

For the past two weeks all Kākano classes have been busy learning about 2D and 3D shapes. It has been exciting to see this learning being transferred outside the classroom. At home please support our learning by talking about the common shapes around us and questioning “How do you know this?”.

Another game we have enjoyed is ‘I spy with my little eye a rectangle, triangle etc’ and also we have enjoyed asking yes/no questions only to find out what shape it is. Both are these are easy games that can also be played at home, in the car or when walking home. News from Room 7 and Miss Gosden Room 7 are enjoying being back at school. We welcome Lilly to our class this term! So far this term we have completed some colourful artwork using painting and collage techniques. They are displayed in the Karawha Learning Centre and in our new School Hall. For Writing, we are learning to write procedures. We had a fun time writing about how to make a Nutella or Marmite sandwich. We enjoyed eating the sandwiches after. Check out our instructions on the Room 7 class blog. As always, feel free to pop into Room 7 before or after school to see all the wonderful learning the students are doing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -WEEKLY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER RETURN SLIP: Newsletter No 23
