Linux Environment using OUVPN and NX-
Client
For your course, you will connect to Oracle University‟s training environment using OU VPN
and the NX-Client. Follow these steps to configure your computer for the labs:
1. Disconnect from your corporate VPN (if applicable).
In the steps ahead, you will be asked to connect to Oracle University‟s VPN network. To
do this, you must disconnect from any other VPN you may be currently using.
Oracle employees in an Oracle office or using Oracle VPN, skip to step 5.
2. Go to https://ouvpn.us.oracle.com
This will bring you to a login page with “Array Networks” at the top. (show me)
3. Enter username 95054.user01 and password Pur7ty7 . Then click the “Sign In” button.
If you get an error with the user name, try any user between 01 and 40 (e.g.
95054.user35). Note that the password is case-sensitive.
4. Click the link titled “Click here to make connection”.
After clicking, it may take a few minutes to install the VPN on your system. During the
installation process, you may get a message to install an ActiveX control. Click to install
the control as indicated.
Once complete, you should see a small red A icon in the toolbar at the bottom of your
computer. You are now connected to the OU VPN. Do not close the window labeled
“Welcome”, as this may disconnect your session.
5. Next, go to http://www.nomachine.com/download-client-windows.php
Click to download the “NX Client for Windows”. Once downloaded, install the client on
your computer.
The following steps will test your ability to access the labs by connecting you to a remote
environment. Once you have successfully connected to the desktop, the test is complete.
To exit the remote desktop session, be sure to click on Actions > Log Out. (show me)
o From your computer, select: Start > Programs > NX Client for Windows. This
will open the NX Connection Wizard window. (show me). Click Next
o In the “Session”field, enter "Test Connection". In the "Host" field, enter:
eg3373.us.oracle.com; Port: 22 and click Next. (show me)
o Select "Unix" and "GNOME" and click Next. (show me). Ensure you put a check
on "Create shortcut on Desktop" and click Finish.
o Go back to your desktop and double click on the icon "Test Connection". Enter
the username and password as oracle. This will connect you to a virtual Linux
desktop.
If you see a „Warning‟ dialog box pop up, click „Yes‟ (show me)
You have now completed the lab setup.
If you are having problems downloading the client, ensure you have Administrator or “Power
User” privileges on your computer. This may require you to contact your internal desktop
support group. For solutions to other common problems, click here.
These steps are intended only to prepare you for class. Access to the actual training environment
will be provided on the first day of class.
